The Way We Will Remember Savannah (April 9, 1995-July 5, 2007)

I just heard today that Savannah is going downhill fast. Here she wasin better times.

Well, it has been three years and twenty days since I took this photo. Sorry to say that Savannah is barely making it, not going to make it through the week.

Savannah died this morning, July 5th, 2007 at 10:25 a.m. EDT.

That was twenty-four hours ago. She was twelve years old. I am sorry that I never got to spend much time with her.

 

When I drove into the driveway to take her to the vet, she was already outside, and she ran up to the car as usual. I got out and we started to go inside, but she could only go back about twenty feet before she gave out.

 

Her spirit never gave up. Even near the end, she would jump up to go outside to run, but her legs would not carry her. She must have been more than a bit perplexed.

 

As her breathing became ever more labored, it was obvious that she was suffering more and more, and so there was no alternative to taking her to the vet to say goodbye. She couldn't make it across the parking lot, and I had to carry her like a baby, her feet sticking up into the air.

 

She died where Honey, Scout, and Melody all died. Gizmo at the age of nineteen simply never came home one day.

Savannah was always on the run.

Then she and Scout would get back in the car to go home.

Oh, Lannie, this series just breaks my heart. I am a fierce dog lover and I appreciate your pain. Savannah looks so happy and loved - running and laughing and flapping her ears - she had "the good life".

We still miss you, Savannah.
