This is charming through so many points of view. I love and respect elephants for their strenght, gentleness and elegance. To me this image captures a detail so wonderfully...it makes me smile remembering how cute and lovely elephants can be. The title is great. I can see you unique vision you have on the things around you by the attention you give to detail and the great crop here. Thank you so much for sharing!

I so strongly agreed with one of your comments on another member's recent post -- a comment asserting the need to respect the shooter's purpose rather than the critic's desire -- that I immediately came to see some of your own work. Glad I did. This is a terrific shot. 6/7 anon. Regards...

thanks all, and Joseph, I'm glad to hear the specific comments matter to people. I always try to explain what I think, because when I get the same nyself it's so much more helpful.

I'm sure that sometimes too, when I suggest an area of improvement, folks don't want that. I think half the time folks just want to feel good, and half the time they are really looking for feedback. Hopefully saying what you think, while still being complimentary, helps everybody.

Did you have to take many shots to get this so perfect? The angle of his trunk, the angle of your shot, the lighting are all just perfect. Bravo!

Thanks everybody, you are very kind. I don't remember, but I think I took just 1 or 2 shots like this, close-up of the trunk from this angle. Once I knew I had it, I went looking for other things (other angles and activities, etc), all of which were good for memories but not as striking for everybody else. Or at least, that's what I thought, I misjudged how popular this would be!

The light was great for this, bright overcast with that backlight on the tip. It got tougher later on when the sun came out brighter.

This is a rescued elephant, http://www.pawsweb.org/

Soon I'll go back to see some wild ones again, hopefully bring back other noteworthy images.
