Lovely black and white, I like the grain too. Nice depth of field and he has a great expression that is hard to pin down - which is what makes the shot interesting - in my (very) humble opinion!

I have seens a few of your shots before and your DOF is always spot on.

Chris there is a certain Norman Rockwell quality about your work of the last year or so - very uniquely your own - you're getting there buddy. I couldn't put my finger on it before - and it just occured to me with this shot - the connection.

 

I see Tim's point about the composition - probably the fence - but the 'flaw' seems to fit the style and look I mentioned - so it works for me ....

Hi! It's been awhile! I love this shot...you've caught a very interesting expression. I think if you were able to clone out or burn those two small highlights on the fence, the eye wouldn't be drawn there as much. Otherwise, I really love the grain and the overall feel of this shot. Nicely done. :)

I don't have an issue with the composition. For me, its a wonderfully natural and expressive portrait, sharp and well exposed. Fine work!

also this is a classic shot, great comp and tones combined with a simple but effective pose.The soft lighting makes it for me too.
