I'm trying to analyze the technical part of what you do. It seems like you go for a levels adjustment that pushes the blacks down all the way the the highlights up to the verge of being blown out; up the saturation (perhaps selectively?), and maybe do some sort of diffused layer.

I ligthened the trees by adjusting curves with the mask on the trees only,

made selective color adjustment, and used soft focus wow action (comes with CS2 version of the PS WOW book) also with the mask. The masks are done using diffused tip brushes.
