Santa Cataline (View Surprise in Her Pixels)

johncrosley

Nikon D200, Nikkor 17-55 f 2.8, color photo, converted to B&W through channel mixer, adjusting sliders to 'taste' then checking ('ticking') monochrome box -- not a 'manipulation' under the rules -- enlarge the 'pixels' of the poster 'saint' for a surprise.

A woman passes by a portrait of Santa Catalina, and if one enlarges

the face of Santa Catalina, and views the 'pixels' one is in for a

surprise. Your comments and critiques are invited and most

welcome. If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a

helpful and constructive comment. Thanks! Enjoy! John

John,

This is an intersting shot, The picture of the woman holds so much emotion and is so large, but the girls hurries by without noticing it at all. You can sense that the girls seems to be in a hurry and walks with focus. I can't tell if the picture is hung crooked or if your frame isn't entirely straight... but it's a small detail. I think black and white was a wonderful choice here, it works very well and make the picture really pop. Very nicely done, thanks for sharing your work -Erika

I was standing to one side a little bit, so I had to 'rotate' the frame a little bit and still the portrait was 'skewed' -- which is why it appears not 'square' -- fixable in Photoshop, but why?

And the image was almost all grayscale anyway, but for a sole graffito (yes one only) that was red and distracting, so I converted entirely to grayscale to avoid the distraction.

Did you enlarge this greatly to see what's in the pixels of Santa Catalina's face. It's surprising. Even to me.

Have a look.

Thanks for a lucid and learned comment.

One cannot see the face of the woman, walking, but what about the photo on the wall?

Is it a photo like the woman, walking. It's probably the right age, though one wonders if the woman, walking is a 'saint' as in the wall picture.

Look carefully (and greatly enlarge) the wall picture. Be prepared for a surprise.

I think I uploaded it in great enough detail that you will be able to see what I'm alluding too, if you go through this exercise -- it surprised me when I was processing this photo.

This is, indeed, a photo about face(s).

As to Picasso, he put body parts (etc.) on as seen from various angles without regard to where they occurred naturally, in an effort to get one to view things differently and to affect one's senses. He succeeded greatly.

Now, imagine that the woman, walking, has her head illustrated on the wall, like some sort of Jumbotron, (and then 'blow up' the giant illustrations and view its component parts in great magnification and see if you get my point.)

well I guess the poster/face on the wall is composed from small portraits so that a larger version/print should be very nice...as is I like the juxtaposition of poster and real world figure...saint vs young and real lady...saints vs grafiti...immobile &contemplation vs walking...face vs side...etc...you have a whole serie of such juxtaposition and I like this way of adding contrasting elements...regards, Laurent.

Laurent -- You have 'boxed the compass' -- said almost all the possible combinations of what I have done. That makes further comment by me almost useless, so I'll stop here except to say 'job well done' and 'thanks'.

I really appreciate that you took the time to understand this more complex than appears at first glance photo.
