I was in perfect positon - up front: 15' from Les and 15' from

Ler...until the first chord was struck.. then the mosh lunged forward

and I was absolutely trapped; could not move. So I fought my way out

of the mosh pit for the first level and waited, and waited and waited.

This show had the absolute worst lighting.. blues and reds, all from

the sides and rear... until this splash of white light washed over

this truly fantastic musician. I am dead set against any sort of flash

for concert photography, period. This is Les' custom Carl Thompson

bass guitar - THE RAINBOW.

I took my son to Les's booksigning at a local record store.. He read a chapter and answered a few questions.. so I ask.."so Les, are you going to pull out your Rainbow tonight", to which he replied: "that's kinda personal question, don'tcha think"? with that quirky grin. We laughed. In fact, he did pull out his Rainbow. Unfortunatly Les and the boys did not play "mud" on this occassion, but did do a resounding rip-roaring version of Wynona's Big Brown Beaver.... YEEE HEEE HAAAA.

I have looked at this one many times, and I like it better every time. The composition is good, and the sharpness is perfect, the conditions being what you describe. I feel with you down in the mosh pit, I experienced something like it at an Opeth concert this summer, where I got three usable pictures before I had to get out to save myself from being jumped over and trempled down.
