Karl Schuler 48 Posted November 9, 2006 The path in this photo is in fact an old irrigation channel, bringing the water from the glacier to the beautyful Borit village. As the level of the glacier is melting down, it is more and more difficult for the farmers to maintain the channel through the increasingly fragile moraine. It is not sure how long this channel can be used. Without water the village would have to be given up.Thanks Alexander and Daily for your comments on the former version of this Photo. This is a slightly revised version, taking your suggestion into account.Karl Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted November 9, 2006 Impressive shot, and interesting story. The diagonally sweeping line of the glacier is superb, and the addition of a human element is a classic, works perfect here. Light, colors, distant clouds - a very fine landscape altogether Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted November 9, 2006 Thank you Carsten. I always appreciate your professional feedback. This photo is merged from two shots. One shot with increased contrast to get the details of the glacier and one with reduced contrast for the foreground rocks. This may be called "contrast bracketing" ;-)Hope to see soon new photos from you, perhaps from the 5D? It seems you have something very special for your 200th submission?Karl Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted November 9, 2006 Karl, you are right, I got my 5D last week and am eager to go shooting (alas, the sky was boring..). My lens line-up is 17-40/4L, 50/1.8, and 70-200/4L. Maybe next weekend...Contrast bracketing sounds interesting. I guess you mean two different conversions from a single RAW. Or really two different exposures ? Anyway, does not look manipulated at all. I would say this is one of your best Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted November 10, 2006 Carsten, good luck with your new equipment ;-). I still have not started working with RAW. The photo is composed from two different exposures in JPG. Karl Link to comment
malmer 0 Posted May 16, 2013 Hi Karl,Where exactly is the Passu glacier? I trekked on the Hispar glacier for 3 weeks back in 1991 and it looks pretty much like what you captured. Old memories but very strong and sweet memories. Amazing and arid landscape. Best regards Per. Link to comment
