wingell 0 Posted November 9, 2006 Here's a photograph of a coal miner's home in the hills of Perry County, Eastern Kentucky, taken during a period of sometimes violent labor unrest in that desperately-impoverished Appalachian Mountain region. Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks...Bill Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted November 13, 2006 I live not very far from this region, and your shot attracts my interest. But, perhaps due to the size, I find myself wishing to get closer. Did you take other, more intimate, shots here? Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks for stopping by, Doug. Yes, I do have other, closer photos of the miners and their living conditions. I posted this image as a kind of "environmental" shot showing the setting in which many of the region's families lived. I visited the area five times over two years during the period of wildcat miners' strikes--mostly as a print reporter but often taking photographs to illustrate the news stories and features I was doing. Given my rudimentary filing system at the time, it will take some searching to find the other prints. Stay tuned :). Cheers, Bill Link to comment
