Haunting reminder of S21 Prison

This seems like the sort of photograph that needs some background information. Can you tell us more? With that title I would need some context before offering a comment or critique.

This was one of the many images that peppers the wall of The S21 prison in Cambodia. For reasons of documentation, photographs of the victims were taken prior to their torture and death. These were often people (of all ages) that were innocent of crime. They were at the mutilating hands of the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's who seemed to want to rid the country of all those that could think for themselves.

Obviously, this is not my own original photograph. It is a photograph of a photograph, but the place was so haunting that it needs to be seen. Amongst literally hundreds of images I felt this girls fear stood out the most.

Thanks, Claire. Knowing this context greatly increases the power of the image.

A thought or two about the "photograph of a photograph" issue...

Did you rephotograph the original image yourself and, if so, did you do so in the original location. If you "photographed the photograph" yourself in the original context it might have made some sense to include the surroundings of the posted image in order to somehow give a sense of its place.

(On the other hand, if you are simply re-posting the work of another photographer I think that should be noted in the original -if nothing else, to make it clear that it isn't your own work.)
