bosshogg 4 Posted November 8, 2006 A very nice image. The hopelessness in the little girl's face is almost palpable, and the scene is one of pure urban desolation. This is what good street photography is all about. Nice work. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,903 Posted November 8, 2006 Yeah, I agree with Ellen. Also I like the writing on the bricks. This is a nice shot Bill Link to comment
rob_duyser 0 Posted November 13, 2006 amazing, the composition and yes, the other child peering from under the blinds; and that fact that this is from '68 makes it stronger somehow, what is a rowhouse, an orphanidge? kindest regards, rob. Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Thanks, all, for the kind words. Rob, the "rowhouse" at which I took the photo was a two-story single-family home in a block-long row of similar, attached houses in the Italian section of South Philadelphia. Philadelphia was filled--and still is--with mile after mile of such homes. I lived a few blocks away on the city's waterfront and was probably walking to the "Italian market," a several-block-long open-air food market, when I took the shot. Although the fact that the image dates back to 1968 does add an element of "history," I suspect it would not be difficult to get a similar photo in that neighborhood today. Cheers...Bill Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted November 13, 2006 Bill, you've obviously been a fine photographer for a long time. This has a wonderful urban life feel, much akin to the style of Helen Levitt. Link to comment
