I am enjoying the larger version very much, but I'm missing your documentary annotations on the scene I'm viewing. The township around the lake appears to be deserted, please explain. 6/6

Beautiful shot. Reminds of places I have not gone to yet. Blue sky, snow capped mountains, a lake and fall colors, what else could one want. :) When did you take this shot.

Thanks Shawn and Zaqib for your comments and questions. The Borit lake lies in a small side valley of Hunza, off road of the Karakorum Highway. We visited this place because there were reports about a snow leopard (with two cubs) having killed three goaths some days ago. Since more than ten years I hope to encounter once a snow leopard in the wild. I followed many times their footprints and think some of them have already seen me but they remained hidden for me. This shot is from late October 2006. There are several families living in this villages and there is a guesthouse. On both sides of this valley there are glaciers flowing down to the main Hunza valley. The level of these glaciers in decreasing and it is more and more difficult for the villagers to get the necessary water from there. Without irrigation water these villages will have to be given up. Great Shot! I really like the contrast between the blue sky, white clouds, and gray desert (or dessert, I can never remember, which is quite embarrassing because I am a teacher.) It does a good job of conveying both the beauty and harshness of the location.

On a side note, I have been a fan of yours for a while, your photos really do give a great insight into the places and people that you photograph. Thank you very much for sharing your work. It has been a great inspiration for me.
