MotoX Silhouette

greg_smith14

1/640s, f/22, ISO 400 @ 18mm, 85 warming filter. I was lucky enough to get a track pass to the national MX final from a friend of mine who races competitively. The pro photographers were crowding the media towers with their top-of-the-range gear, shooting the usual aerial shots & spills for reportage. I decided to try something different and headed trackside. I broke all the rules with this shot - shooting directly into the sun, not using fill-flash, centring my subject etc. I closed the aperture right down to get the starburst effect from the setting sun and opted not to use fill flash as i wanted a silhouette.

Hi Greg,

Breaking all the rules got you something a little different. I've seen many of these types of aerial shots but none like this. Good call. Cheers.

Greg, this is simply amazing. I have seen the biker and sun shot before, but never as nice as this and with the rays of the sun in there!

one caveat, it seems a little bit green to me, which has happened a lot with my rebel's white balance. If this was taken in raw i would go to 'tune' and drag it the opposite way from green. However, that may not convey the same feel that it does right now, but i would experiment with it.

Awesome shot.
