First let me offer my condolances for the recent visit by the Texas Longhorns football team to your fair city ...... smile ..... But there is still hope - maybe you'll play an *Easy* team in one of the Bowl games - like say the University of Michigan maybe or the University of New Hampshire - big smile ...

This is my favorite of the 3 posted ...... Nice crop, color and expression on her face. It's a little soft but with some - that is a desireable affect - so it's just an observation. Either that or it's a scanner / film thing .... Meaning I had difficulty getting clarity out of my scanner when I was shooting film. If it were mine, I'd dodge the highlight in the left eye - make it brighter to match the eye on the right. It's good you got catch lights in her eyes to begin with ... ! Good job Chris.

Now - let me ask you what you are trying to capture when you shoot these portraits? What are you thinking? What's going thru your mind? ....... Just curious - I've never asked you that before. I'm curious what it is you see - what it is you like about shooting people.

Oh, Ken. You're a Horns fan....sigh.....I was at that game. Lousy last minute fumble. I've never heard a stadium that loud in my life:) It was fun...despite the result. You could tell the Texas boys didn't like the cold.

Originally it was too sharp. Coolscan V has good focus...almost too good on this one...so I tried to soften the grain on the face....perhaps I went a little too far.

What do I think when I take portraits. I guess I look for a moment when the person is being natural, being who they are. I like it, because of the reaction people get when they see the result. I like getting a good photo of someone who doesn't normally have a good picture of themselves. That's always nice. I'm not a big fan of the glamour shot type stuff....has its place, but it's not me. I've been trying to develop a style that's my own over the years. Lately, I've been somewhat frustrated with myself (in photography) I haven't had too many opportunities to take photos as of late. I've been so busy with the move, and not knowing many people here, I haven't been able to do what I love the most(portraits) This is an older shot. I haven't developed a roll in sometime. I just haven't been happy with anything I've shot lately. That's why I've been away from here for awhile. I'm trying to take a step back from my work. I did take a roll not to long ago, and will be developing it soon. Hopefully there's something in there I can work with. Some shots of the little guy:) Anyway sorry for my little rant. I'm going to try to take a bunch more rolls soon. I have 17 waiting for me in my fridge.

Thanks Chris - sometimes the 'rant' can purge things - or clear a log jam ..... re-defining outloud, those thoughts that usually stay in your head. Everyone I know has dry spells - so relax and let it work itself out - nooo pressure, on yourself. And I like the reasons you shoot and I like the type of shots you do. And you do have a style all your own - which I like - alot.

Thanks for sharing that Buddy - means alot ... Kw

I like what you do with people shots, Chris. This is a sweet portrait, too. A touch soft for me, but I love the expression and the color.
