This shot was taken at 3200 ISO in a woods @ 1/400 sec. Thats how

fast this dog is. Manipulation to remove ISO noise but thats all

thats altered.

I like it but I thought I'd ask for your opinions as i always like to

know how it can be done better and also just to hear if you like the

photo.

Do you like the border. I think it adds to the shot.

Thanks as always for your comments

Hi David,

Hilarious! I like this shot. It really conveys a sense of speed. The look on the dogs face is priceless. If only it was nice n sharp...

Cheers

This is a good shot. I think if it were sharper, it would lessen the sense of motion...the way it is now does convey motion and speed very well. The outstretched hind legs further the sense of motion and speed. The expression on the dog's face really shows intensity and concentration.

You ask, "Do you like the border?" Honestly...no. I think the border is too thick, and for me, it confines the image a bit too much. It doesn't smother the image, as some borders do, but if you want a black border, why not try a four or five pixel border, rather than one so thick? It might open the image up a bit more.

Nice action shot of your lil doggy hurling through space. Made me think of the star wars sequence when they rode the aircycles through the Redwoods.

Anyway, I think the background is a little mundane, so I took the liberty of splicing in a more appropriate background. Hope it's ok. If not just ask and I can delete it.

wow love the movement. The focus even seems spot on, give or take a bit because it is a bit blurry - bit because the eye glints are so sharp the blur doesn't bother me. The border: this simple black border doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't give the photo anything but its not detracting at least.

With so many comments on my photo I feel that I would be doign you all a great injustice if I did nto reply so here goes.

JIM ADAMS: Firstly Thanks for your comments and the advice about the border. I really appreciate your comments not least because my favourite nude shot of all on PN is actually one of yours, thought sadly you have now removed it (3978197). I will give your reduced border a try. I did a model shoot for the first time on Thursday and took inspiration from many of your shots there too.

BENCE ZANI: How to remove the ISO noise - There are many different ways as there are many different noise issues but in this case the dogs head is dark and the ISO creates blueish noise on it. In PS I selected the area to edit (dogs head) and chose Fillters-> Reduce noise . Then in the sliders to the right of the resulting dialog chose reduce colour noise. I also did some manual blur and tweaking. normally I don't do much work in PS as I find that as I take more shots I end up with more work so best to get as much right i nthe camera first but if a shot is a good enough composition then its worth spending the time on it. Its a bit of a painfully process and learning curve.

TOM KEYS: Thanks for making me laugh. I am not a big fan of unrealistic alterations but given the humourous side of yours I really appreciate it. I like your work - very good colours and compositions and I am quite jealous of your moon shots as I have not managed to get a good one yet. I think you probably have a rather longer lens fitted to your camera? Also liking the "Horseshoe Bend Gooseneck, Colorado River, AZ" shot and appreciate the fact that you state where the shot is as many landscape photographers omit this.

ANCA DIANA: You will if you want to. I have been aspiring to get results like many of the photographers on PN and over the past year have learned a lot from this site (and a lot of what not to do). Trial and error, never giving up, dedication and most importantly learing by your mistakes and acheivements seems to be the key. We will never get there because if we did then it would be boring and we would not do it any more.

For reference the I guessed where the dog would be and then focused on the ground where I thought its head would be equidistant from the camera at that point. I let the camera auto focus do the focussing because the light was too poor for me to do it manually and then I switched to manual to prevent the camera refocusing. Luckily it worked but there were four attempts. The other shots were ok but this one is the best compositionally. I hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. They are all greatly appreciated.

p.s. I love the word "ENVINCES" - must find a reason to use that myself.

Regards

Dave

David, it's rare that I do a composit of two other's images (it's only when I cruise the RR que and discover images that go together in an odd way. only once before). Glad no offense was taken.

I am a dog man through and through.

I used to put all info on images but many of my uploads you see now were done in batches . . . so if there's anything you are curious about, simply ask.

I'm happy to see this one get so many views. Thanks for the comments, too.

What do you call this dog, if you don't mind?

This is olive. She has a sister (not a blood relative) called Lucy. Lucy is also great but not as active so doesnt appear in too many shots though there is one in my collection somehwere. There are loads of olive though.

More will come too but I am concentrating on people shots at the moment.
