aepelbacher 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Do you think that the darks are too dark? Especially in the upper left corner? This image is looking straight up through the pillars of the memorial. I will also upload some more standard shots of the place so that you can get an idea of what it's like. Link to comment

lonebearimages 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Lou Ann, these are nice shots of complex architecture. The image leading off the series is excellent, kinda abstract, but cool with the sky through the glass and the companion columns adjacent. A neat perspective. The second photo might be a touch dark on the left-side, but not fatally. All in all, nice job! Best regards, Chris Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted October 31, 2006 The image you've posted is really beautiful! What a wonderful perspective of this monument. The lines and glass are really great, especially since two of the corners match up with the corners of your image. You've found great beauty in a memorial about such a horrific time. Nice job. lbattjes 0 Posted October 31, 2006 I googled this site since I had not seen it before and wanted to know more about its design. This is what I found... -The design utilizes uniquely powerful symbols of the Holocaust. The Memorial features six luminous glass towers, each 54 feet high. The towers are lit internally to gleam at night. They are set on a black granite path, each one over a dark chamber which carries the name of one of the principal Nazi death camps. Smoke rises from charred embers at the bottom of these chambers. Six million numbers are etched in glass in an orderly pattern, suggesting the infamous tattooed numbers and ghostly ledgers of the Nazi bureaucracy. Evocative and rich in metaphor, the six towers recall the six main death camps, the six million Jews who died, or a menorah of memorial candles. - "Look at these towers, passerby, and try to imagine what they really mean - what they symbolize - what they evoke. They evoke an era of incommensurate darkness, an era in history when civilization lost its humanity and humanity its soul . . ." "We must look at these towers of memory and say to ourselves, No one should ever deprive a human being of his or her right to dignity. No one should ever deprive anyone of his or her right to be a sovereign human being. No one should ever speak again about racial superiority... We cannot give evil another chance." - Elie Wiesel Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Thank you, Leslie, for posting that quote. I didn't mention the numbers ... but you can almost see that something is etched in the glass. There are a LOT of numbers. And the smoke-stack feel to the towers is eerie. It is a good reminder. Link to comment
kcole 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Amazing monument, I love that you can capture each image so beautifly, even with the knowledge of what they represent. Great work, and thank you for sharing this series:^) Link to comment

aepelbacher 0 Posted November 2, 2006 Pnina - of course it's okay for you to include that link! Here it is as a hotlink. I think that it's very important work!! In fact, if you want to copy this photo and load it in that folder, just post a link back to this image and my name, and I'd be honored to have this image directly IN that folder. It's important ... first of all because it's in your family's history ... secondly because it's part of all of our histories in some way or another ... thirdly because it can NEVER happen again! colin carron 58,916 Posted November 2, 2006 Lou Ann, I think the darks are about right for a subject that is going to be dark anyway. This is a fine shot of this memorial and captures a feeling of dark, light, hard lines against the gentler forms outside. I like it a lot. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 3, 2006 Lou Ann, thank you so much. I have added your work to my folder to the image of the Memorial Hall, which I think is the key image of them all. here Read my ( first) comment as the introduction Link to comment
sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 3, 2006 Hi Lou Ann, Very strong photo as usual. Did you try cropping the top portion of the photo? I cropped it with paper on the screen and liked it even more with the metal frame as the top portion of the photo. Just my personal taste probably. John Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 3, 2006 Lou Ann, I don't think it is dark( I have only now discovered your question) I have a new monitor very well calibrated, and it looks good! I have made a mistake in writing about your work on my folder and corrected it, so look now.It is a very interesting monument, thanks again Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted November 4, 2006 This is one of your very best, in my opinion, Lou Ann. I like it that you are shooting straight up in this one. (Your new biopic is great, too--very elegant.) --Lannie Link to comment
