kslonaker 0 Posted October 30, 2006 The reflection in the water is a green post behind the bird. Thought it gave an abstract look to the water. Comments? Link to comment
w. roger keagle 0 Posted October 30, 2006 I just love these birds, they almost seem to pose for you...this is very well done and the reflection of the post is perfect...one I would have on MY wall ! Link to comment

ljk 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Fuzzy hair(er...feather) cut and lovely reflection. I like how that is centered, and he's not. Nice shot! Well balanced! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 30, 2006 I originally had this rectangular, but it was just "off" somehow. The square crop seemed to work much better. I love pelicans; can't get enough of them, but I limit myself to shooting them maybe twice a year to keep it interesting. Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Kim, you made the right choice with your crop. As I said, it is well balanced.... Link to comment
stevespencer 0 Posted October 30, 2006 This is really good. The technical quality is great, with very good highlight detail. I like the way you composed it, and I like the reflection. When did you start shooting with the D200? I think it will open doors to your capabilities. -Steve Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Steve, started shooting with the D200 yesterday! Ed surprised me with an early birthday present! How cool is that?! I was out most of the day yesterday shooting butterflies and today with pelicans and seagulls. It's a great camera. I printed out a 12.5 x 18.5 pelican shot and it has incredible detail. I really enjoyed the D100, but I LOVE the 200!! My printer can only go up to 13x19, so I'll have to take a file in to a photo shop and get one printed out really huge to see what it can do. markboyer 0 Posted October 30, 2006 What incredible detail and a classic comp. The light trial in the water behind him is fantastic. Guess you like the new camera, huh? Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 30, 2006 It's a keeper for sure, Mark! It's so much faster and I'm very happy with it so far! Link to comment

lbattjes 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Love this portrait...he reminds me of a little old man! :P The square crop is a good choice here and the reflection is interesting...I wouldn't have immediately thought of a post. The angle of his bill cuts the frame almost from corner to corner...nice bonus! Congrats on the new cam, btw...can you tell Ed that my birthday is in December? :) Just a thought. :P Leslie Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Leslie, it has to be a BIG birthday...mine is the big 5-0! Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted November 1, 2006 does that mean that 35 doesn't count? Seems big to me at times :) BTW, when is the big 5-0 for you? You mentioned that this is an early gift... Leslie Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 2, 2006 35 doesn't count, sorry. (Especially because it's so much younger than me!). :) The big birthday is this coming Saturday (Nov 4). Link to comment
