Hello Frank, I'm stunned that this shot should collect 3x3/3. I think it's great, full of character. Very nice work.

Thanks Peter, Andre and Tim. I was quite surprised as well, Peter, but then: tastes differ and there's nothing wrong with that. Anyway, I thought it is a good portrait and worth of posting here.

Frank, the 3/3 was probably some goofy bot or some one that doesn't like dogs. This image did very well for a dog photo and deservedly so. It would be fun to see with the horizon straightened, a little more contrast and a l/2 stop darker. Just mentioning this because I love the photo, looks good no matter how you cut it.

Incredibly beautiful. Great perspective. And the expression on Rancha's face is just heart-stopping for me. I would love to see a photograph where she is looking directly into the lens! I think the tones are excellent as they are...giving Rancha light in her face.

I have to tell you, I look at this shot at least every other day. I have it bookmarked, and not simply because it is an outstanding portrait, and not simply because it's a great dog shot and Rancha is beautiful.

My point is this, and I'm finally getting around to figuring out how to say it. You have a way with black and white that a lot of photographers strive for (myself included), but never achieve. This is only one example of it.

If you ever make a print of this available, please e-mail me through photo.net and let me know.

Best Regards - Jim

Thanks for your nice comments. It is very satisfying to hear that this picture touches others.

Rancha is a beautiful and very sweet dog. Together with two other dogs (Dos is in the background here, he is very shy because of the way he was treated before he was adopted by his present owners; so, yes, the photo is an actual way of presenting their attitudes to strangers), she lives at the house that we used to rent to spend our holidays. This year, for the first time , I heard her bark. She was begging for food at our table. We had clear instructions from her owners no to feed her. Obviously, she was very much frustrated by that and give one very high pitched bark, very very close to my right ear. Which has lost most of its ability to hear high tones since then... The picture was taken some minutes before that happened.

These are obviously not dogs but some sort of intelligent life form masquerading as dogs so as to unobtrusively study our civilization. I hope they won't find it condescending if I throw them a bone, and you too, by saying "great shot".

the expression is fantastic, so as the composition with the second black dog and BG....a priceless image, funny on one hand but captivating and on the other...I keep thinking what is she looking at and thinking.....

Estupenda toma, y me gusta mucho el movimiento -que tanto el perro negro como los otros elementos del segundo plano- le dan a la foto. Y te felicito por los primerisimos planos que haces a los perros, animales... los bordas.
