Hi, Walter,

I saw you had posted this this morning, and then it disappeared. It's very colorful and well-framed, but it does look a little "over-cooked" to me. Maybe the combination of the sharpness of the Pentax and lens, the Velvia, the slow shutter speed, and then the scanner. Who knows? Or it might be the famous Pnet compression, which we all know never happens -:).

I see you used an enhancing filter, too. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Is this right from the scanner software, or was it saturated and sharpened in PS afterward? I'll be looking for a scanner soon, and am wondering what to get.

Best Regards,

Barry

These small falls are located just east of Quebec city. A much

larger water fall, the Chute-Montmorency, is nearby.

Barry, thanks for the visit. I gave this a +15 boost in saturation after the scan. I also applied (in Photoshop) some USM and reduced a magenta cast by about -10M. This was necessary to get it to look even close to what the original 6x7 chrome looks like on my light table. I have a pretty good scanner, but even it does not do justice to a large Velvia original. Regards.

Walter you sure put that filter to good use. I enjoy visiting other places with your images. You do a very good. I'm also glad to see your posting a little more, it's been quiet. - Sean

Reds are popping here Walt. For me that nice patch of blue sky takes this one a few notches up. Did you have to wait to get the blue? It adds a nice element of contrast to the warmer Fall colors.

While it looks like you were lowballed a few times, your ratings on this are better than some have been getting.

This place has become lowball city.

Always enjoy your Fall images Walter!

Good to have you stop by, Vince, and visit for a while. So many of my favorite photogs have gone to warmer climates that it was getting kinda cold and lonely here at King Cronie's round table. Hard to blame 'em though, considering the treatment and rates being dished out lately.

I am checking out the links to Sir Bobby; what a low blow to someone with his talent! His 4x5's are really beautiful. Another one getting slammed is Ian C. I don't think he's going to post anymore (check out the discussion on his "Blue Pier"). That is especially sad because he had such great results with the same equipment that I use. I really liked to follow what he did.

Any way, regarding my photograph, this was the last frame on the roll. I only made this single exposure, the preceding frames were used on a much larger water fall about a quarter mile to the east of this location. The sky was changing very rapidly and I had to set this shot up quickly. A few minutes after taking this the sky went completely overcast.

We left this location and drove east to Saint Anne, with the intention of returning to this location and making a few more exposures. When we did return later in the day, these falls were in complete shadow as the sun had moved behind the escarpment. So, this is the only photograph I have of these.

Stay in touch...Best to you.
