wingell 0 Posted October 23, 2006 Here's an image taken in a Philadelphia coffee shop in 1969. Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks...Bill Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,964 Posted October 25, 2006 I like it Bill. Back when it was OK to smoke inside. Now I want a cigarette Link to comment
Alex_Es 388 Posted October 28, 2006 This is a great photo, Bill! We were the counter culture and yet we smoked! Link to comment
amysn 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Great shot! Love the feeling, the grain, the composition. Glad to hear it was 1969, 'cause that's how it feels. (I think it's the film and grain more than the people that convey the year?) Also feels like it's from a movie. Super. Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted November 2, 2006 Amy, thanks so much for your comments! I agree completely: the grain and film--and perhaps the Summicron lens--make all the difference in a shot like this. The film, of course, was Tri-X, developed in Acufine and printed on DuPont Varigam paper. An almost 40-year-old print was scanned for this posting. The subject with his head stuck in the funny papers was my Philly studio partner (actually, we shared a lot more than just a studio in those days--like frequent tear-gassings and other irate actions of camera-shy cops trying to cope with those troubled times). All the best...Bill Link to comment
amysn 0 Posted November 3, 2006 :-) So, yesterday I wasn't sure what to rate this...7/7 I thought, but was thinking, perhaps it was because that's what you rated my photo. Today upon seeing this photo again, wham, it hit me - 7s! But... it seems photo.net has the same skepticism - it would not allow me to rate it 7s, saying "you've rated one of my photos that within the past 14 days" - is that a new policy? Oh well. Love the shot today as much as yesterday. It really is striking and captivating. Link to comment
