Nice subject and composition. You can see the painted image in the photograph reflecting the image captured by the camera.

"If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough" is what the photojournalists say. In this case a 24mm lens and standing 2-3' behind the subject would have helped. You'd still be able to see the scenery, but the painting and painter would be much larger relative to other objects in the scene.

Marvin, A really decent shot that I'll bet your subject would love a copy of. It hadn't occurred to me previously but I have to agree with Phillip on the use of a wide angled lens for effect. Live & learn! Don't you just love this site? Best, LM.

Martin, The shot is fine as is. I believe that Philip's solution is valid for a DIFFERENT look, not necessarily a better one. I mean, it's sharp, well exposed, colourful, and nicely composed with the subject off center. It leaves nothing to the imagination; everything is right there for us to see. Worth 1000 words - at least. Best, LM.
