susan stone 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Your wonderful moody image has made me realize what photo ops I've been missing while feeding calves in this wet, snowy, mucky weather we've been having. I really appreciate that you've left this in color, the color is so subtle yet very appealing. The wet muddy road with just a touch of snow is so graphic and draws the eye in to enjoy the rest of the "country road". Link to comment
darius.tulbure 0 Posted October 21, 2006 While the colors, light and atmosphere are great, I really don`t like the composition! The cropped thing in the right side "counterbalanced" by the empty space in the left side (this makes me think why you just didn`t point the camera a bit more to the right!), then the horizon line that crosses the center of the image... Another minus is the lack of point of interest. It could have been the house or just anything else, but nothing`s enoughly emphasized. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted October 21, 2006 Perhaps what is "enoughly emphasized" is the bleakness and stark environment of many of our Western ranches where the road to the house and barn is almost impassable when wet; where the kids have to catch school buses that they might have to ride for an hour each way, and often in the dark, before they get to classes; where the nearest cup of driveup Espresso is 100 miles away; where hard working men and women produce the food we put on our tables everyday.....well I could go on. A great image tells a story and this one tells mine. Link to comment
brian_goodman 0 Posted October 21, 2006 Thanks everybody for your comments. I alway's thought that the "rule of thirds" was ment to be broken; as you can tell by several of the shots in my portfolio. But actually this shot is divided into thirds. The road enterence, the barn, and the sky. For me, the point of interest was the road, which lead me into the scene. I was going for a feeling of stillness and isolation. When I shot this, nobody was around; except for a fox that ran through this scene. And it was dead silent, with a light snow falling. I felt isolated, and alittle worried about getting stuck in the mud. So, that's what I was trying to capture :) Again thanks for your comments; and thank you Susan for your feelings :) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 1, 2006 I love this! Susan, I'm glad you've discovered Brian...this guy has awesome talent. About the composition, it's perfect to me. I love the feelings here. Link to comment
jamesg 0 Posted November 3, 2006 Another great study in line! The bottom of the frame sweeps you into the road; the ruts give a sinuous accent to the barn and all this capped by an ominous sky. Then we loop to the right to look at the detail in the hay trailer. Awesome work; beautifully constructed! James Link to comment
jamesg 0 Posted November 3, 2006 I'm disturbed by the fact that someone in photo.net land can give an image such as this a 3/4... and the kicker is that they do it anonymously. I'm starting to think that photo.net needs to only allow 3's if there is a critique included. Sorry to clutter your critique thread with this. James Link to comment
