This is just a great scene. And everything is lit up just enough.

I normally dont suggest alternate approaches to great shots like this but since you asked for comments, did you consider cropping the bright moon from the top. It seem as if there is plenty to look at without it. Possibly one might look at that bright old moon as if it were a flash bulb that did its job so perfectly but did not need to be in the picture. Just my two cents worth.

Thank you for the input on this, and yes i considered to crop out the moon. But since this night photo was taken in moonlight... Where is the moon? The balance of the photo could improve with the moon cropped away.

Breathtaking...I've been in similar surroundings, and this photo brings to life the cold beauty and absolute stillness that is found on a frosty, moonlit night in the dead of winter. Arlene Griffith P.S. I agree, though, with Bill re: cropping. I don't think taking away the moon would alter the feeling eminating from your photo. Try it and see.

I say keep the moon. It gives a justification to this cold, crude and unusual light that bathes the scene. The passing clouds add a lot of mystery to this shot. Beautiful.

I agree with Philippe - keep the moon. I'd say even more moon, all the way to the top of it. Perhaps a shift to the left so we did not see that road on the right ... Great illustration of the idea that great photos can be made at any time of day. One of the best images in your folder.

Sorry to disagree, but the moon has to go. It is just too burnt out and distracts from the main part of the scene. I'd give two extra points for aesthetics if the moon was cropped out, and that would make it a 10!

I don't think you should cropp the moon, but it is a bit too bright... I DO think though that cropping the road on the right side might be a good idea.

Love the mood and light in this picture!

Very beautiful picture!

It is true that the moon is a bit too bright, but the rest of the picture is so nice that I can easily forget it!

Very well done!

Yes, IMO the moon -although burnt- adds character to the shot. But the suggestions about the road in the right are correct. A ideal crop would be in a square format with the moon in the right upper corner. Perhaps something like this...

I've tried to shoot a full moon and moonlit scenes a couple times but can never get exposure time even close to descent - I did shoot with a tripod and cable but was lost without a light meter to guide me - any tips on how to go about the exposure time on nighttime shots like this one?

.... Maya if remember correct recommended exposure time is around 1/125 @ F16 iso 100 but this particular shot is not really about the moon itsself its about the landscape bathing in the light and the rapid moving clouds, with the need of a long exposure time, and as you see the moon is burnt out as it always will be with long exposures. I guess there are useful threads in the archives about moon photography try searching there. Regards
