He was one of, if not the most gentlemanly individual I ever met.

Years later, I learned that this full head and shoulders shot, was

the centerpiece in his wall of fame, in his home, and the only one

not showing a coronet or trumpet.

This is a magnificent shot, Doug. Shows the strength of his character, his intelligence and the fact that he has been tested in this life...as well as his creative musical brilliance. That's quite a lot for a portrait. I particularly like the crop, as it adds power to the image.

Ok, sorrry my finger got stuck!

You can see where his mouthpiece makes an indention in his lips. He just played a bit before you took this picture. Unbelievable!

You got this close!

Thank you so much for taking this picture.

OMG!! That is it! I am now going to just sit here and listen to some music and go get my trumpet out and play some.

See, you don't know I play do you!

You don't know I was a trumpet player and that this man is it! He is all there is.

I have never seen a more beautiful picture of him in my life with his lips like this and the texture and the colors just so perfect. This is an ahhhh moment for me beyond belief. You must have had an amazing JOB. You and JOHN WARREN (check his portfolio out).

WOW!

Hey Micki,I played my trumpet for Louis and he started to cry... it hurt him that much.

Seriously, I did play during my school years, but when I got home after a three year stint in the Air Force, I found my trumpet had been a toy for my two brothers and four sisters, and quite useless. Never got another one.

If you want the full file for a print, let me know.

God, you just made me bawl. SILLY MAN!!

Or maybe it was that you tried to play your trumpet for him!! LOL

I got to once play on 6th street with Hewie Lewis and his band at age 17 in Austin. I played with several other bands that most people don't know (Jazz Bands) including me because I was young and I was just taken from place to place with a friend of mine mom's boyfriend when I was in High School.

I also had a Trumpet Teacher that played down on 6th street in Austin so I played with him on some gigs and he played with Joe King Carrasco and Stevie Ray Vaughn back in the day. I was lucky enough to see Stevie once but unlucky enough to not realize it.

I played in College and have played all my adult life. I have played at TAPS at enough VET funerals to get an honorary membership to the VFW thanks to my DAD. No, I do not play at funerals anymore. My husband is in the NAVY and I have seen my share of ware wounds.

Music is part of my life and a picture like this showing him having just played is something meaningful to me for many reasons.

See, I spent most of my high school and college never being able to wear lipstick. You can't wear lipstick if you are always playing the trumpet. AND, I almost always had some sort of mark on my lips like his (not where his is but in the middle of my mouth).

You can almost tell a trumpet player by their mouth. My teeth are not straight because I played. My fingers on my right hand can all be considered almost double jointed and are all stronger.

Because I have been sick (I have had seizures for the last seven months) I have not been able to really play the trumpet or piano. BUT, I can still pick up the trumpet and play, maybe not as high, but I can play! I can play better than most high school players and I have always tutored anyone that needed it for free (if they were willing to do as I said).

Music is the key to success! Art and music will and can give you more in life.

Thank you so much for sharing these with us. ~ oh I have written a novel, thank GOD I type over 100 wpm! :)~ micki (Oh just so you know I said I am a musician not a speller ;)
