pjmeade 12 Posted October 15, 2006 I was trying to get a couple of grebes when I saw this swan landing, the 300mm + 1.4 extender I was using was way too long to capture the reflection. The iso was set at 800, so it's been cleaned up with NeatImage. What do you think? Link to comment

tidris 0 Posted October 15, 2006 Great capture. Shame that your lens was too long for the reflection as well. That would have been the icing on the cake! Link to comment

pjmeade 12 Posted October 16, 2006 Hello all, thanks for looking and commenting. Ben, I heard the swan take off, but it was hidden behind some trees. All I had time to do was change the IS to pan mode. I took half a dozen shots and will try to process them when I have some pressing competition and commission work out of the way. Cheers. colin carron 58,916 Posted October 16, 2006 Great shot, Peter. I have been meaning to get to one of the local ponds here to see if I could take shots of swans landing or taking off. I had in mind the 'water-ski' position but this would do just as well. Now I have a benchmark to compare any results I get though I have to say I doubt mine will measure up! Link to comment
canonfodder 0 Posted October 16, 2006 Fantastic Peter, this is a great shot considering the time you had available. How do you get on with the extender? I was toying with the idea of getting a 2x for my 70-200 f2.8L IS... do all functions work OK when attached? Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted October 16, 2006 Hello Chris, on the basis of two outings and a few test shots I've been very impressed. In bright conditions AF is pretty fast on the 300 +1.4x. These conditions were a little testing, because I would focus close and then away. The water was glassy calm and there was fog dispersing, sometimes focus would take a couple of seconds going from one side of the Thames to the other, but you can use the focus ring to help there. I've put the 1.4x on my 70-200/f4 and it seems perfectly usable, although I haven't taken any shots with that combination. Hope this helps. Pete Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 17, 2006 Wonderful swan and capture dear Peter, only I wish I could see the whole reflection in the water :) Biliana Link to comment
