Old buildings in the Rocks. Took a long time to get a free shot

without people or cars but I think it was worth the wait. What do you

think?

to the two cowards who gave me a 3,3: If you're going to rate this image as 3(poor) at least have the guts to say why and not remain anonymous.

I tried very hard to make this a unique image and I personally think this is at least better than average. I've worked in photo labs. I know what poor looks like. So be fair.

TOo much light and too less light - you can't see the street at all. And the red car in the corner spoils the composition.

Brighter and the red car is gone.

personally i prefer the tone and contrast of the brighter bricks in the original version. The second version looks more washed out (IMHO of course). I think some problems with your pictures have already been pointed out: the corner of the red car was one. I also find that it is too busy, the structure of the bridge over the series of roof and the cars lined up at the bottom left, are all very distracting and make it hard to find the subject of your picture. I find my eye wondering aimelessly around trying to find what it is you want to show. For a start I would probably have tried to shoot this at a different time of day to have a warmer glow on the bricks, crop the shot to just what is important in the picture (probably the houses and their geometric figures), and try to eliminate the distractions as much as possible by selecting a different angle or lens.

 

As for the ratings don't pay too much attention to them. A number of the 3/3s are bots and/or visitors who don't know much about photography and have way too much time on their hands.

I agree with Michel Latendresse's comments. In Tim's defense, though, it's really hard to get a shot of these buildings without people and cars because they're located beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge (or for you Americans "Harbor") in a very popular tourist area called The Rocks. Although the bright light is distracting, the composition is quite good and the photo deserves a higher rank than "poor."
