J. Perez 0 Posted October 11, 2006 Those trees in the backgound surely make the aspen (?) stand out. Very nice photo, Sondra! Cheers, J Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted October 11, 2006 I have seen several shots from the US with silver birch ? trees. The bark of your variety seems to be whiter and more even than the european kind. In any case it makes a fine subject for the freground of this shot. Link to comment

sondra kick 0 Posted October 11, 2006 Colin, quaking aspen trees with their golden-yellow fall foliage, are perhaps the dominant fall foliage tree of western North America. It is from this fall foliage standout that the ski resort of Aspen, Colorado derives its name. In the Rocky Mountains there are stands of quaking aspen trees that stretch for miles, their autumn gold perhaps punctuated here and there by an evergreen or two, as if for contrast. Quaking aspens are closely related to poplar trees. The origin of the name, "quaking" lies in the fact that the foliage of aspens shimmers or "quakes" when there is a breeze. This quality is due to the trees' flattened petioles, or leaf stalks. Link to comment

dem_photos 0 Posted October 13, 2006 A literally brilliant photo, Sondra. I'm trying to figure out why the slight lean in the aspens doesn't bother me a bit. Part of the reason, I think, is all those vertical evergreens in the background and the strong horizontal of the shore. Perhaps the leaning aspens provide a comfortable contrast to such a stable grid. Or perhaps I'm just full of it. Whatever the reason, I do love the photo. Link to comment

donnaalbers 0 Posted November 18, 2006 Hi Sondra, the colors on this tree are remarkable in their beauty, but they are more outstanding with the complementary blue backdrop. . Link to comment
