andreipfeiffer 0 Posted October 10, 2006 Very nice moment captured. Guess it is done early in the morning. It is a bit too dark in the bottom-right corner, and the exposure is not uniformized. Well composed thow. Link to comment
chriss1 2 Posted October 10, 2006 Wow Rick, this one is really amazing, the deep blue cloud looks even bigger and more marvellous than whole mountain! Excellent composition and quality Link to comment
J. Perez 0 Posted October 11, 2006 Great cloud! The lighting on the mountain is also very nice. I would have cloned out the small contrail on the upper left corner. Cheers, J Link to comment
stp 6 Posted October 11, 2006 Very interesting clouds, and a great location. The lighting is difficult, and I think you've done a great job for these conditions. I don't find the dark foreground objectionable -- this is close to how the eye would see it, and it looks very natural. To me, the scene looks very late evening (or morning, but I would expect these clouds to form later in the day). Link to comment
andreipfeiffer 0 Posted October 11, 2006 Stephen ... you are wrong ... the eye didn't see this ... the eye doesn't have that "spot metering" ... your eye equalize the overall lighting so that you can see both the bright and dark parts ... IMO this is not natural. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted October 12, 2006 Andrei, I'm fully cognizant of the significant difference between the eye and film/sensors in the ability to record a range of brightness. And I also know that a set of eyes viewing this scene will see more detail in the dark areas than Rick's image has captured. Nevertheless, this image reminds me of similar early morning / late evening scenes I have seen (with my eyes) around Rainier and other peaks, and that's why I find it to be a natural rendition. I think Rick has done an excellent job with his digital camera in capturing the scene, and I like it. In fact, if he had used PS techniques, overlays of different exposures, or a soft graduated ND filter in order to make the range of brightness more uniform and therefore allow more detail in the trees, that might actually detract from the overall mood that I like in this image -- that's just my personal preference. Jeff Filler 1 Posted June 9, 2007 I very much like this picture. If it was mine I'd print it out large, mat, back, and put it in my living room or office. I would also explore cropping off some of the top (sky) - though the cloud feature is quite wonderful itself. Link to comment
