regis 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Pass of Glen Coe - is probably one of the most famous places in Scotland. It is like a gate to the real Highlands. Majestic A82 road that goes by Rannoch Moor has it's route here as well - hidden in the slopes of the surrounding mountains. The name probably means narrow glen and for the sheer majesty of mountain scenery there is little to beat it anywhere. The north side of the glen is closely hemmed in by the jagged edge of the Aonach Eagach ridge, usually thought to be the most challenging ridge scramble in mainland Scotland. It is also named "A Valley of Tears" - to commemorate 13th Feb 1692 massacre, when about 38 to 70 people from Glen Coe village were murdered by government troops, led by Captain Robert Campbell.
