aepelbacher 0 Posted October 5, 2006 Aargh! I did it again ... messed up the background shade for the drop shadow. ANYWAY ... this is a severe crop of a larger image. I used my long lens to zoom in on the face of one of the statues at the Korean War Memorial, located in the same area as the Lincoln Memorial in downtown Washington, DC. First of all, I'm very pleased with this in B&W. The color was so subtle/subdued anyway, that it wasn't a big leap. And the background was very blurred with a significantly shallow DOF ... and I had the larger shot all ready to upload ... but was playing with different crops and thought I'd try this one. It seems a bit more intense. Any thoughts that you have would be most welcome! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted October 5, 2006 Here's the original framing, but after I converted it to B&W.... which do you prefer? Link to comment
joanbn 0 Posted October 5, 2006 I would prefer the uncropped version but would still crop a bit closer on the right. That's just my choice. Nice photo. Link to comment
afs760bf 0 Posted October 5, 2006 The Korean War Memorial is a great memorial, and the statues look so life-like. I've got a photo or two of it myself. Anyway, I think your crop is a dramatic one and works pretty well, although I'd probably take it just a little wider. And the B&W works well, especially for this memorial, which lends itself to these colors, anyway. Best Regards, Barry Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted October 6, 2006 I like the tight crop and the original. How about a square crop? The tight crop you uploaded really concentrates on the feeling in the soldier's face s I go for that one. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 7, 2006 I do like Colin's crop. The closer cropping gives "life" to the statue. B&W was a good choice, too. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted October 8, 2006 I agree with Kim; the square crop is the best one, good image. Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted October 9, 2006 Square crop is fine... but in my opinion it's a bit too ordinary...! Lou Ann, I like your tighter crop better!!! Your version carries more intensity with it, and I like that way for this image. Link to comment
