Koi Art

Here's an image I wanted to try and play with. This is a group of

Koi at a local vineyard. I used a long shutter speed to create this

motion blur...and really loved the output.

This is great! I just love the shapes and colors, the high saturation works very well indeed. This would most certainly be very appealing printed in large format.

Whenever I feed coi or find them in ponds their "look' is ephemeral and that is what gives them their spiritual appeal. You have captured this in their natural beauty. This photo has a painterly quality. I just love this! excellent work - vallery b

This is great! There is a compositional nipick I have, the large black empty spaces near the borders. But, overall it works well. Cheers, J

Looks like a picture that could grace a wall of Austin Power's Electronic Psychedelic Pussycat Bar. Like the colours and the uniqueness of this image.

Hey Rick, by the way, THIS is the photo of yours that made me email you. Your straight-forward landscape shots are beautiful, and the red maple photo-of-the-week is an especially intense, well done composition, but I like this one! I bet you didn't guess that! It is unique in the way you have captured both motion and shape/color. BTW, I'll be mad if you aren't taking photos this weekend.

You betcha I made it out shooting today. The rain did make for some nice mood as I had hoped. Tomorrow will be a massive downpour, so I think I will stay home. Did you get out?

I am always curious to hear which photos interest people more. I was shooting these Koi, and no matter how hard I tried, they moved way too fast for the low light to get completely still. I was amazed at how they were swimming on top of eachother to get to the food I gave them. I thought to then just work with it to capture the frenzy and slowed my shutter down. I really liked how this shot turned out, and I get a lot of interest in it.
