Portrayal of a strong woman in her sensuality. An apparent conflict of emotions but which in fact only render the opposites more striking. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman with character.

Interesting to guess what really is your statement about fashion. Judging from your expression you were feeling rather negative about it at the time - although your "girls and fashions" photos are are very positive.

Obviously there are negative aspects, especially the imperative, for young women especially, to look constantly sexy whatever they are feeling like; and to reveal more of their bodies to everyone than they may feel comfortable with; and to attempt to conform to the currently fashionable appearance which may be physically impossible for them.

Your expression and stance seem to say that you are reluctant to be revealing so much of yourself to the camera yet desperate for the photographer's approval. But, of course, the twist is that you are the photographer - so why do you feel under pressure? Are you portraying the angst of the fashion victim? Or is it a wider view - fashion being a powerful metaphor for social living in general and its pressures on the individual?

Anyway it's a very well crafted photo and the side-lighting is excellent. A similar shot with a self-confidant smile would be a knock-out (sorry to be so conventional !)

Best wishes, Jonathan

Thank you Ramsey, Alon, Carlos, John, and Jonathan for being interested in the photo and leaving comments. Your supports have always given me motivations and perspectives.

Jonathan! perhaps, you are right, and maybe you are wrong. For each photo of mine, it either reflects some truth about myself, or it's just my fantasy of a certain character. I am still examining myself, so i can not confirm with you about what you've thought....;o(.

There's nothing wrong with being conventional. You are right, it would be a knock-out if i put on my huge smile. Well, for now, you just have to view the B&W that i posted per your request :o).

Warm regards,

Tanya.

Wow, Tanya this is a stunning image. I really like your determined look. The rest of the photo speaks for itself. The style, light and shadow are all very dear to my heart. You have done a wonderful job; I feel that I can reach in and touch you as if I am in the studio with you.

I like Mr. Peri's comment about character. Character can be photograph'd, but never faked.

The composition here is so ideal, it allows the warmth of the light to do its magic. I think I have such a passionate connection to this photograph because it is the way I would photograph you, and see you. It is all too easy to imagine this image in my viewfinder.

Your expression is so intense, yet vulnerable. It reflects the conversation we just had about wine and photographing people. Such is poise. And poise is so rare, to see poise under this light, changes the way the sun rises.

It is now my dream to photograph you :)

wow. every body part in its 3D effect. excellent lighting. regards. amir.

about my bull race picture. yes the man is bare footed standing on a piece of wood (2 feet in width and 6 feet long). bull run in their full speed and power. it is difficult and need lot much practice to balance on that piece of wood during race.

So Neil would also like to photograph you. I'm sure it would be interesting, it is someone with great integrity of character.

I come back to look at this, because it holds the viewer. At the same time it is inviting and prohibitive. I'm attracted to both sides, but I would want to gain that trust.

...This poetry is for each of you (and please also allow me to share with others who has the same wish.)

"BEAUTY AND MELANCHOLY"

Wrinkled is my brow, sunken and intent my eyes,....Tawny hair, gaunt cheeks, and bold air,....Fleshy red lips and white teeth,....

Head bowed, a fine neck and a deep chest;....

Good limbs, well formed, plainly dressed;....

Nimble of step and thought, word and deed,....

Quiet, humane, loyal, generous, and sincere,....

Against the world, when events are against me;....

Bold of speech, and often of hand;....

Alone most days and sad, ever pensive;....

Hot-tempered, alert, restless, and tenacious;....

Rich in vices and in virtues both, I praise....

Reason, yet i follow my heart:....

Death alone will grant me fame and peace.

by Ugo Foscolo, 1802

I feel that each of you will make a beautiful photographic poetry in your own visual verse if you photograph me. Thank you for your genuine interest in me as a photographer and a model. I am completely flattered by your request.

Warm regards, Tanya.

See Tanya !, how provocative a photograph can be. This self portrait of yours induced such interest and emotion, that most of the comments are about expression, mood, feeling. You surely had succeeded in awakening the imagination of the viewers and it shows that you are not only an excellent photographer, but also master the art of using photography to express yourself very well. But, why had you chosen the poetry "Beauty and Melancholy" ?. Do you consider yourself a melancholic type ?. One of your B&W self portrait shows a joyful face of yours. I am sure many of your fans would love to see more of your self portraits or just simply "more of you". With your self portraits you have done very interesting character study of yourself, both photographic and psychologic.

...it's the love of Shakespeare in me that comes out. As i have mentioned elsewhere, ultimately, i want to capture the full range of moods and emotions in my photograghy. Moods and emotions are so transient, and yet, they are the colours of life. They dictate a lot of our decisions (a least for me.) Thanks for your genuine interest Beng. Warm regards, Tanya.

Thanks John, I'm deeply honored, and as you know, I admire you, your eye, and your work greatly. Distance prohibits my simple dream, but, you are the one artist I would dearly love Tanya to photographed by. Hopefully, somehow, someway that happens. Seeing Tanya through John Peri's viewfinder ...... I'm speechless :) John, this might also test your romanticism, which is what so many artists see in Tanya's eyes, and no doubt, what keeps us coming back.

Thank you Neil, yes I would like that too. Who knows, it may come true one day. It would certainly be a very emotional experience, and it would show in the outcome. The model is a young lady of exceptional beauty and character, both within and out. My feeling though is that if I photographed her, she would lock away the pictures and only take them out again in many years time, because I would show her a part of her that she has never seen in the mirror. You will notice it also in the eyes ....

...i am speechless...:o)for being so fortunate to recieve so much attention from both of you (as well as of others). As i have mentioned before, "Beauty is in the eyes of beholders", and i own my beauty to your view. Beauty can be recognized as from within or outer appearance; more importantly to me, it's the emotional impulse that aroused in the mind of the viewer. I appreciate your interests that keep the impulse going.

I believe that there's beauty in every woman (of course in ...man too :o)), i am just among the very fortunate who has the opportunity to acquire an artcraft that can hopefully show "possible dimensions of a woman". I dare not to represent every woman's wishes or standards, i just hope to share with others to learn and discover about oneself. It's an incredible feeling of "what dreams may come." A year ago, i did not know i could do photography.....

John! it sounds like Neil is testing your "romanticism"...in photography. Hmmmm! Maybe, your viewfinder will see something else you've never seen or captured (when you photograph me ;o)). Of course, i will transform through your viewfinder too :o).

Thanks again for holding that impulse so strong. Warm regards, Tanya.
