Karl Schuler 48 Posted September 27, 2006 He is a bird catcher. He keeps some living sparrows tied on a string. With them he attracts more sparrows. When they land he catches them with a sophisticated net system. He sells one bird for two ruppees in Peshawar. If he is lucky he catches four hundred sparrows a day. I do not know who buys sparrows in Peshawar and what for. Perhaps to tie them on a string for catching sparrows... Thanks for feedback and rating. Karl Link to comment
soltani 0 Posted September 28, 2006 His expression is great, hiding and waiting. I think some people eat sparrows; sorry if it seems nasty. Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted September 28, 2006 well, the sparrows r not bought 2 b eaten or cooked. ppl buy them & free them with prayers that Almighty ease their own troubles. it is a common custom in Pakistan that ppl look out 4 caged birds, pay a price & take them 2 their houses, troubled persons, sick kids, ailing parents etc touch those birds & free them in the air with hope that in reward 2 that gesture of goodwill, Almighty will ease their affliction. regards! katzpjs 50 Posted September 29, 2006 Karl I like your photo and the beginning of the story that you've told. I like even more the ending that is provided by Umair and I'm pleased that it is a happy one. I wonder how may times this old man catches the same bird over and over and ... Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted September 29, 2006 thank you very much for your contribution to the story, which continues and becomes more and more interesting and is only partially happy.Mrs Masood told me yesterday how to prepare the sparrows and where in Peshawar we can get them and that normally only the male ones are eaten. So I guess the female ones are freed with prayers to ease troubles. And then Shuja came up with some more insight, telling that he knows form Khalid Khan that he has eaten tons of them to be a strong man and have many sons... pnital 36 Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks Karl and Umair, what a story and a custom,as well as interesting image. He looks like the natural birds watchers and photographers that are hiding in order to see and photograph their life from a closer distance.Looks like a round circle of Catch/and free passing through human needs and beliefs. I like the Sparrows, they are called here " House Sparrows"( means local),. Thanks Karl. Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks Shawan, Pnina, now when I see sparrows I ask myself how many times they might have been captured and freed. And I learn to distinguish the males and the females ;-). Karl Link to comment
