Although the leaves are nice, and creates a floating feeling, inverse to the sky and clouds, I am more intrigued by your time limitation for comments. What is the reason if I may ask?

Me too, Tim, and I love this shot. I will spend hours and days at local ponds, puddles, brooks and pools trying to fill my card with shots like this. Autumn churns this melancholic, somewhat spiritual mood in me, and there's this juxtaposition with crisp, yet impermanent leaves and the background of soft sky fading into darkness in this shot I find compelling.

As a composition is really good, the mirror of the clouds fullfills the empty area on the water. The contrast between the leaves and deep blue color of the water is fantastic. The way you frame the image, leaving the leaves at the bottom of the image, gives an interesting point of tension to image. The effect of the tones'contrast is fantastic.A very aesthetic image

Thanks you guys for liking this image! JH, I was trying to be funny actually. Chris, "Autumn churns this melancholic, somewhat spiritual mood in me, and there's this juxtaposition with crisp, yet impermanent leaves and the background of soft sky fading into darkness in this shot I find compelling." I am going to steal this sentence from you someday and call it my own, beautifully written. Mike, the leaves are not even half turned yet on the south shore of Lake Superior so you have a couple of weeks to get up there.

I admit, I'm a sucker for leaves floating on water and this shot is one of the best in its category. I'm guessing you did some post work like darkening the sky reflection? Cheers, Alex

Alexandre, I used a polarizing filter on my cheap Tamron 28-300 zoom. Avatar, good point about the time zone, only Rocky Mountain Central.

I thought so :-). But wasn't sure, so I had to play the ignorant and good mannered role.

My apologies for being 3 minutes early.

See u soon.

I have no idea what time it is, so let's play it's within the right zone. The reflection really adds to the shot and makes the leaves stand out nicely.

Hi Tim. I've tried a polarizing filter (B&W circular) with my D200. Is there a special setting I should use on the camera when I use such a filter? The pictures turned out to be very flat and with a grayish cast. I'm used to using polarizing filters with film cameras, and I don't get the same results with my D200. Any Hints? Thanks.

Marie-Claude, I used the polarizor to cut some glare from the water so I could get more of the clouds. I just look through the viewfinder and turn to the desired effect. Depends on which angle the sun is coming from also.
