Maybe I ought to call this "Posterior Revelations" like one of Howard's folders. :-)

Anyway - this photo, to me, demontrates the beauty of working with middle school students. Each and every student is at a different place in development, physically, emotionally, academically, socially ... and those four attributes are never in sync with each other within the same body ... it's fun to watch. The smaller guy has the leadership personality. The taller guy is the better player. They're the same age.

I try to get out to the field after school sometimes with my long lens (and sometimes my monopod) and try to grab some shots of the kids when they play whatever sport is in season for middle schoolers. I won't post any with the kids' faces ... but I thought that this shot was precious.

I was really bummed that the bottom was so close to their feet. I would have been happier with about 5-10% more space down there. I also wish that gal weren't standing there on the side. But I didn't feel like trying to clone her out, either. What are your thoughts?

Oh, the score. We lost ... nine to zero. :-(

Hi Lou Ann, although the image is a bit tight, I'm happy that you caught their feet! Although it would have been nice to have the girl in back not be in the image, she is sufficiently blurred so as not to distract too much. In any event, you probably didn't have all the time in the world to click the image, so you have to certainly make do. A tough loss indeed but at least you got a good image out of it!

Great shot and great explanation to go with it! I think the change from pink to white was probably smart...the white is less distracting, especially with the boys' bright blue and yellow unis.

This tight crop doesn't bother me here...really, the bright colors and the sentiment conveyed by their positions catches and holds your attention, so I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it. The only thing I might change if you felt like taking the time, would be to clone out the top bar of the fencing since it seems to "sit" on the taller boy's head. It shouldn't be too hard or time consuming, and it may make it feel like you have more room on top.

Anyway, I really like this! :) Congrats.

I'm so caught up in the moment with the two boys that I don't hardly notice the background, it is a spectator sport so people don't distract me, and I wouldn't have noticed the fence if it hadn't been pointed out. The image tells such a compassionate story of camraderie and sportsmanship, very compelling.

Cute shot, Lou Ann. Good choices for the background (changing color; blurring). You could always clone a little more ground under their feet, but it's not bad the way it is.
