will king 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Yinka, this is really an excellent photo. It looks sleek and clean. Makes me want to visit Vancouver. Congrats my friend. Link to comment
bigsquashbuggy 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Will, all I can say is get up here, over here, down here - just get here. And as you can see, don't forget your gear (yes, I am admittedly biased since I happen to live about 10 minutes away from this location). Back to the picture - very nicely captured. I assume this was taken just after sundown. The horizon near the middle of the frame doesn't bother me since it would seem appropriate in order to capture the reflection. Link to comment
stephen hazelton 3 Posted September 23, 2006 Looks just a little too rainbowish for me- like I can imagine that no matter what the place looks like in person, it doesn't look like that. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Stephen, I highly doubt Yinka spent time coloring all the lights in this shot. Yinka, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I had to guess, this was probably a long exposure (maybe 2-4 second shutter, maybe longer) which it's been my experience that long exposures tend to make colors more vivid. I have never been to Vancouver so I can't say if it looks exactly like this photo, but who cares if it does or does not. Photography is art. How boring would it be if cameras only captured images EXACTLY the way humnan eyes see them? Henrik, thanks for the invite. I want to come soon. Maybe our next family vacation. We visisted the eastern portion of Canada last year (Niagara Falls/Toronto) and absolutely loved it. Link to comment
bigsquashbuggy 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Perhaps the saturation is pushed a little but I'd say this is darn near the real thing. I have a very similar shot in my portfolio of downtown Vancouver, and, other than merging two exposures, not much was done to it. Link to comment
yinkamd 0 Posted September 23, 2006 No changes whatsoever were made. Minimal levels. No changes at all to saturation. The light in Vancouver at Stanley Park was the most amazing I have ever seen. If you ever have the opportunity to go there, check it out. This photo was taken June 30. I took about 50 shots in the changing light. All were this colorful, although the exact quality changed moment to moment. This was about 40 mins after sundown. Thanks everyone for the kind comments Yinka Link to comment
