kslonaker 0 Posted September 23, 2006 PLEASE VIEW LARGER...yes, I played with this...here's the original. Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted September 23, 2006 Very very very beatifull Kim, and I like both, you know my 'hang' to blue colors ;D.... I can feel this solitude feeling seeing this, bravo Kim, for this beautifull picture (and I did see it in large version) with love Els Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Wow. How barren. And THAT is supposed to be my next road trip ... the Southwest. Interesting. :-) Actually, I'd love a brief overview of what you did to this, Kim. I see two things ... one that you changed the color, and two that you added some sort of glow. Would you be willing to share your secrets with us? ;-) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 23, 2006 If I remember correctly, I duplicated the layer, then inverted, selected "color" in the layers menu and flattened. Created another layer, used Gaussian blur at about 40 pixels, adjusted to about 75% opacity, then adjusted contrast somewhat. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Thank you very much, Kim - I keep promising myself to work on PS skills more. I will, I will, I will....... :-) Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted September 23, 2006 I really like what you did to it. It has a more authentic feel to it now; quite lovely. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Seemed like I should be there at sunrise or sunset, but it was mid- day. Comments? Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted September 23, 2006 This is so striking! The original is ok, but your version is really eye-catching. The colors and light work so well to convey the desolate/almost other-worldly feeling of the place. Would love to see this on a wall. Leslie Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted September 24, 2006 I've driven by this place a dozen times or more - but never took the road to the top. It's actually a favorite stretch of highway for me - Raton Pass, Clayton,N.M., Stateline, Dumas and Dalhart - brings back alot of memories - driving from Dallas to Colorado. Nice one Kim ... jnicholson 0 Posted September 24, 2006 Excellent post work, Kim. Taking a midday sun shot and turning it into something special...very clever indeed. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 24, 2006 We have tried about three times to get the timing right to go up to the volcano, but always seemed to time it after 4:00 pm, when they are closed. This time, we were there mid-morning. Ed thought it would be cool to get pictures from the top of the volcano, so we did the one-mile trek around the top! Nearly finished me off, as I have a thing with heights!! I had to only look at the path climbing up, although at the top when I stuck my camera in front of my face, I got very brave looking over the edge. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted September 24, 2006 A picture of it taken from the Highway ..... not mine. So you're telling me that's a foot path and not a road ?! ...... I thought you could *drive* up there ! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 24, 2006 What you see there IS a road and you drive to the top. AT the top, (where the little dip is you see up there) you can walk around the rim and it's about a mile. There is still quite a climb, but you drive up most of the volcano. :) Link to comment
nirakara 0 Posted September 24, 2006 Kim, very hard to pick a favorite between the two. Initially I was leaning towards the blue but after I saw the larger ver. of the original posting, it was hard to decide...like an alien landscape, but still very real! I like 'em both equally. colin carron 58,916 Posted September 24, 2006 Very bleak and alien looking, Kim. The orange sky gives it an 'other side of the galaxy' look about it. Link to comment
pulok 1 Posted September 26, 2006 Like the posted one; very much artistic! Regards... Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Thanks, everyone. I am entering this one in a juried show; we'll see if it gets picked to be in it. I never know what they are looking for! Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted September 29, 2006 Outstanding piece of art, the magical light, exquisite composition & great tonal range are amazing composed for this tasteful painting, Kim!!! Best regards. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted September 29, 2006 I like your loaded version. The original looks somehow normal but your converted image has a very stong poetic & isolated feel to it. I like it a lot. Link to comment
fotodaniella 0 Posted September 29, 2006 Hi Kim, wonderful treatment you did on this! Like the composition on the photo and agree that what you did with light is the right thing to do. Makes the image powerful and with and interesting mood, than the original due to the mid day light doesn?t has, well done!RegardsDaniella Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 30, 2006 Thanks, all. I was trying to make this look like it was hot, like it would be on an active volcano. It just didn't come across the way I wanted in the original, so I played, which is my second favorite thing to do (the first being taking pictures in the first place). :) Link to comment
jasonwilliamsphotography 0 Posted September 30, 2006 I love the composition and tones! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 1, 2006 The original is nice.. but with your photoshop kung fu you've given the image a new dimension that absolutely works! It's got that fine art feel that is so hard to achieve. Bravo! Link to comment
rafikrkamel 1 Posted October 4, 2006 Nice work kim, i like the tones and atmosphere, RK! Link to comment
