PhaasePhotography 0 Posted September 21, 2006 This is great, but I would love some details on how you got the difference in colours. -Paul Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Yes - I really love the lighting and the depth of the colors. Wonderful. I would also like more information! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Thank you Guillermo, Paul and Lou Ann. I don't know what do you mean about "the difference in colours" but here are some informations about this photo. The original shot was taken around 8 a.m. It has a nice soft light but the photo was not very interesting for my taste and I have tried to convert it in a night photo. I have began to duplicate the photo and merge both in "product" (or multiply), what has for result to darken the image. The sky was still too bright, so I have select it and merged it again in "product". I have chosen an image of the moon in my photograph library, have reduced its size and placed it behind the clouds. Then I have selected two windows and the glass roof which were totaly dark and have changed the colour in order to simulate the light inside. I thought that the light coming from the glass roof could light up a bit the walls around, so I have traced a selection with a feather of 100 pixels and then changed slightly the colour inside from blue towards red/yellow. I hope my explanations are comprehensible. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Great work, Henry and very good resul with the exception thta the sky's got excessive magenta, IMHO. Go to Image>adjustment>Selective colours and play with the magentas in the Whites, blues, cyans and magentas. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Yes Alberto, I had seen this magenta dominante but It seemed to me more or less plausible for an evening sky. My doubts were rather about the light passing through the windows. What do you think about it ? Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 22, 2006 This is a real nice composition, Henri. You know that I love this kind of attempts to change day- into night shots. I'm real impressed by the colours of the building and roofs. You've managed that part very well. But just like Alberto I have some problems with the sky. In its present state I wouldn't call it a night sky but rather an early eveningsky. You have choosen for a moon to lighten the sky, but in combination with the sky colour it doesn't fit in my opinion. When I imagine a bit more yellow/red this sky would even make me think of a sky which you see very often during a sunset. I would suggest to darken the sky colour to real deep blue with a more yellowish moon and clouds addapted to the colour of the moonlight. What concerns the lightened windows I think you can just form yourself an opinion after you have changed the sky. In the present situation I think the light is a bit to strong which also goes for the parasol, though I like the presence of it very much. It's a real attractive and interesting object in the dark inner; an eye-catcher. Return to the lightened windows I would like to see a subtile difference in colour and brightness between both. I assume that the rooms behind those windows will be lived by different households. I would like to catch a glimpse of a their personal emission/life style. Well Henri, I feel a bit ashamed about this whole shopping list of suggestions but I assume that you don't mind my well-meant interference. Warm regards and good luck if you decided to change this and that. Ada:~) Link to comment

henrimanguy 0 Posted September 25, 2006 Thank you Don, Alberto and Ada. My doubts concerning the windows light are that I supposed it could be probable to see the furnitures ans some objects inside the rooms, but of course, because on the original shot it was totaly dark I could'nt make something appear. About the sky, the paper print, that I have received two days ago, seems indeed a bit too magenta. I also agree with you Ada, the blue could be more dark and deep. I will try your suggestions also for the clouds. Having said that, you know, in my idea it it not a night sky but, as you say, an evening sky, some minutes after the setting sun. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 25, 2006 I like the night tones of this very much. My only suggestion would be to make the sky darker which to me makes the lighting work better generally. I like the light from the window! Link to comment

carsten_ranke 0 Posted September 29, 2006 Great PS work. The sky tone-down suggestion is a good idea. I wonder if a double scan would be more appropriate for this purpose: scan underexposed and correct exposure TIFFs from the original, then composite (in the negative, there is more information than in a single scan TIF). Anyway, very good composition, very atmospheric photo. Link to comment
