hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 20, 2006 It seemed only appropriate to flip this image from downunder as on first viewing it I saw the primitive faces. I'm undecided whether it would benefit from a closer crop to eliminate the detail along the bottom. Your opinions are appreciated. Link to comment
loldhoff 0 Posted September 20, 2006 Where is this? At first I thought it was a closeup of bark of some kind. Great colours. The cropping appears fine to me, but I know what you mean, it often is hard to decide, especially with abstractions. Greetings, Luc Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 20, 2006 A bit like those ink blot things the psychologists are so fond of. :-) I could stare at this for hours and se all sorts of things.... Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 21, 2006 For me it works very well as it is. Don't change anything. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Thankyou folks. So, it stays the way it is. As noted in the 'details', this is on the coast off Sydney, Australia. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted September 23, 2006 At first I didn't want to crop it. Then tried it with a red 100 channel mixer conversion and the shapes started to come out. I ended up cropping a slice off the top and quite a bit off the right. The upper right corner is dark and murky, so better to be rid of it. Here's an attempt. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 24, 2006 David, I take your point about the murky corner, and I think the pattern change there detracts from the 'faces' too. However, I am partial to the coloured version because it was the warm sandstone hues that attracted me to this cliff in the first place. Thanks for your contribution. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted September 24, 2006 On the color version you might consider warming things up, brightening, and adding some contrast. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 25, 2006 Yes thanks. I had played with the original quite a bit, with my limited knowledge. But yours is an improvement and more like another shot I took here on a different day at a different time, which is warmer and brighter. If I go back there someday, I'll take more time to set up. This is a very busy walkway and there's not much room for setting up a tripod without annoying somebody. I guess it needs to be at dawn. Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted September 26, 2006 Hanna, this is a mysterious stoneface. It makes an excellent abstract art! And among all versions, I like the original you posted best. Link to comment
