wogears 186 Posted September 16, 2006 Nice timing and composition, good sepia tone. Are the babushkas for real? This almost looks as though it were shot in the 19th century. My wife wants me to ask a few questions about Amsterdam. (She was there many years ago.) May I? Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Another fantastic capture by a very nice mood here, Ada, love the great tonal range & DOF, exquisite composition, perfect perspective and you have captured wonderful moment!!! Best regards. 7/7 Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Henri, nice you drop by. Thank you I'm fine. I've already received your e-mail and I have enjoyed to hear where you and your family have spend your vacances:-) Thank you Julio for your great comment. I always appreciate to hear your opinion. Hi Les, yes the babushkas are real:-) I quess they must have been the first generation of Turkish immigrantworkers from Turkey in the Netherlands. Most of that generation aren't integrated in the Dutch society I will upload the original colour version to give you a better impression of how colourful they are dressed. I've asked the women if they would like it when a should take some portraitpictures from them. One of them was laughing and she was visible in doubt. But the other woman was very clear in her reaction; she covered her face with her plastic shopping bag. And of course Les, your wife can always ask me about whatever she likes. Dear Richard thank you very much for your great comment. It was a nice moment indeed. It was a great autumn day which brought many people to the castle park to feed the ducks and chickens or to gather herbs like the two women did or just to have a cosy chat. Link to comment
hekate 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Very well captured and the sepia choice is just right ! I also have that autumn feeling when looking at the picture... Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 17, 2006 Great you drop by Hekate. I'm glad you like the version in sepia. I will upload here the original colour version to give an impression of how it looked in reality. Though I prefer the sepia one. I agree with you that it breaths an autumn mood. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted September 17, 2006 Ada, you have taken a rather prosaic photo and made it into an object of darkness and mystery. I like it. I have no idea what it means, but, with the women in the background and the hens in the foreground, it seems to be a commentary about the dark side of gossip, as well as narrow-mindedness. --Lannie Professor, her kind of woman doesn't belong on any committee. Of course, I shouldn't tell you this but she advocates dirty books. Dirty books! Chaucer! Rabelais! Balzac! And the worst thing Of course, I shouldn't tell you this but- I'll tell. The man lived on my street, let me tell. Stop! I'll tell. She made brazen overtures to a man who never had a friend In this town till she came here. Oh, yes, that woman made brazen overtures With a gilt-edged guarantee She had a golden glint in her eye And a silver voice with a counterfeit ring Just melt her down and you'll reveal A lump of lead as cold as steel Here, where a woman's heart should be! He left River City the library building But he left all the books to her Chaucer! Rabelais! Balzac! {Refrain} Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Goodnight ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Goodnight ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Goodnight ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little We're going to leave you now Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Farewell ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Farewell ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Farewell ladies Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little We're going to leave you now from _The Music Man_ (Broadway musical theater) ARTIST: Meredith Willson TITLE: Pick a Little, Talk a Little Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 17, 2006 What a great and suitable support! I can't remember the melody of the song but I'm sure I know this song. Thank you very much for the nice gesture Lannie. Concerns the picture; I have no special intentions by doing it in sepia Lannie than the original colour version which I found a bit to busy. The title says it all I guess. It was a nice day in the early spring and people enjoyed the unexpected beautiful weather. I went out with my camera to visit a castle in my neighbourhood. The castle is surrounded by an extensive piece of ground (park, orchard, flower garden, garden house and a children's farm). When I entered the ground I was attracted by this scene; the two women with the dangling legs who are in a lively conversation inspired me the most. The chickens in front and the woman which had a big bag with slices of old bread to feed the birds formed some nice details to decorate the scene. I have no idea what the women on the bench where talking about because they where Turkish and they did speak barely Dutch. I have met them several times that afternoon while they where looking for herbs etc. I must say that, while we have many immigrants here, both women formed a real striking couple (at least to me). Because of their outfit they didn't suit into the Dutch landscape but at the other hand they seemed to feel at home here. And that contrast fascinated me so much. Many greetings Lannie and thanks again, Ada:-) Link to comment
hekate 0 Posted September 17, 2006 Ada, I also like the colour version, the colours are lovely, but of course the sepia version is the winner ;~) It's amazing how a colour filter can change the mood in a photo !! Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted September 17, 2006 Hallo leuke Ada......... Ik zag dit en dacht onmiddelijk aan oude ansichtkaarten, je weet wel, zo ik heb geprobeerd een kaartje te maken en ik stuur het op naar jou, met groetjes en kussen... Els Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 17, 2006 ;-) Christina you're so right about colourfilters. It's sometimes unbelievable what one can reach with a filter or a simple treatment. Great and funny example you can see above. It's a card from my dear friend Els! When she saw my picture it reminded her to an old postcard and she decided to send me one. Isn't she sweet?:-))) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 20, 2006 Ada, this one really made me laugh! The juxtapositin is such a good sense of humour, as well as the sepia tonal range which enhances the image imo.The hens have an immaginative diagonal line to the "babuskas".... what a connection! Link to comment
ada-ipenburg 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Any thoughts? I'll appreciate to hear them. Thanks Ada. Link to comment
