hugh_hill 0 Posted September 13, 2006 The Brick Lane Festival, Celebrated its 10th successive year, considered to be one of the most cross cultured events in the U.K matched only by the Nottinghill Carnival which incidentally runs one week earlier. And the equally magnificent Chinese New Year which runs at the end of January. Brick Lane, famous for pie & mash, cockney ryhming slang & Jack the Ripper is today now more commonly known as 'Bangla Town', and here you will find in the heart of this predominantly Bengal & Pakistan community that there is not only harmony but something for everyone to enjoy, and such an abundance of culinary delights to sample too. If you have been to London?s brick lane on any given Sunday you will find the atmosphere electric and very similar to the carnivals albeit on a smaller scale. and If you keep your eye?s open you can see many stars out and about mixing in and having fun Pete Docherty (?Baby Shambles? front man) is often there and on occaision so has Kate and despite what the press say about the couple the crowds love them, and talking about the crowds present you will find that they are from every corner of the globe, both young and old, and from many different cultural & social backgrounds but one thing that they share is a universal ability to get on and have a great time. joemoree 0 Posted September 14, 2006 excellent shot Hugh,I wish compositoin wise that I could see all the balloons but in the heat of the moment I realize perfect composition is not top of the list.Good tones and exposure and very interesting story and info like most of your shots! Link to comment
hugh_hill 0 Posted September 14, 2006 Joe I know it looks like the street is deserted but trust me it was heaving I had to wait 10 minutes for this shot and by this time I think he was getting nervous as unser cover police were present and cracking down on those vendors without Peddlers licences ( a certificate for sellingt wares on the street) my estimate around 99% didn't have them but hey they have to eat too and balloon vending is as good a job as the next. thanks for viewing and your comment. drybrain 0 Posted September 14, 2006 excellent shot. the boy looks lighter than the baloons. those look filled with elad and weighing down on him rather than floating. the building on the back ground adds to that sensation. Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted September 16, 2006 Superb b&w shot, Hugh. Perfect sharpness and contrast. Quite original scene and viewpoint. I like the optical quality of the Sigma lens. Excellent photos series! Congrats! Link to comment
