I am a bit puzzled by this pic... there is for sure a soft atmosphere, however in my opinion, there is a lack of composition and the fact that we do not see the face of the child weakens the pic. Otherwise nice use of the light and DOF.

Cyril, in response to your comments, I am very reluctant to show the faces of the Amish that I photograph. It is against their religion to be photographed, though they are okay if you photograph them without showing their faces. They are also okay if they are photographed in a more general way but not if it shows a lot of detail of a specific person's face. As far as composition, I do agree with you, but I have to photograph them at quite a distance and take what I can get, I cannot ask that they pose for me so all of my Amish shots are candid. One final note, I am very new to photography so I have a lot to learn and truly appeciate all comments. Thanks.

This is an issue I guess, in photo journalism, the interaction you get with people and the respect of beliefs and values of subjects. I appreciate your respect of the people portrayed, and i am sure it will do more good to your approach as well (i guess your sensitivity is what your photo reflect !). I had the same kind of problems with the vary different communities i got to meet in india, and as you say, the respect and understanding of the other's values should be at the core of photojournalism ! keep it up mate, the atmosphere is already there !
