bruckner 518 Posted September 14, 2006 Not sure what kind of bird it is. Captured this month in the interior of British Columbia (came across it in Douglas-fir/aspen timber type). Any idea what it is? Link to comment
mary fran 0 Posted September 14, 2006 Beautiful photograph; composition, color and lighting are super. (I'm no expert but it looks like a Least Flycatcher.) Congrats! Link to comment
krmhlz 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Tough angle and slightly odd looking in its ruffled pose--but above all, look at the bill: it is a conical Thrush bill, not the triangular bill of a Flycatcher. If you look at this bird and imagine it in a pale blue color you will recognize its close relative, the Mountain Bluebird. Other marks include: hint of streaked color in the base of the primaries (this is unusually pale, normally this wing patch is beige and much more visible), the white along the outer tail showing nicely at the very tip, and of course the very bold, complete white eye ring combined with the overall gray coloration. The habitat fits, too. Note that nearly all the Tyrant Flycatchers, including the Least, are pretty much ruled out by the the absence of any trace of wing bars. Excellent work, George.
