Last light filtering through the trees onto these remarkably

terraced falls in Oregon's Mount Hood wilderness creating a series

of beautiful rainbows. Thanks for looking.

i tried to find something about this to critique, but i can't. it's simply beautiful.

i have one question, though. did you pre-visualize the composition in this size/ratio (roughly 4 x 5), or was this the best crop of your original 4 x 6 image? and in general, i notice your compositions are usually quite clean. do you usually nail the compositions during capture, or do you find yourself cropping during post processing to arrive at the final composition?

Both. Unlike many of my predeccesors, I frequently crop images. Not much though for quality reasons. I try to get the composition as close to perfect as I can on site. I simply don't like being boxed into one format. Whether it's 4x5, 6x7 or the standard 2:3. The landscape is random, so one format will never fit all landscapes perfectly. Here I actually visulized a slight crop from the bottom as I was taking the image and later cropped the aspect ratio closer to 4x5 dimensions. This dosen't cause me too many framing problems after I go to print, mostly because I do all my own matting and framing with custom sizes. It's also easier than ever for consumers to find custom frames online, or I can even sell them with images.

The light follow is amazing here, and the result is magic , lighting the human figure as well, I see one maybe two figurs.? The melange is unusual.

Marc,

Again, a great shot all around. When I see your name pop up on my Interesting People list, it's like Christmas morning. LOL. One thing I've noticed about all of your shots is they are super sharp. I assume you're using a very sturdy tripod, remote cable and shutter lockup, but do you use any USM? What's your USM formula?

Will, you and others might be interested to know that I've developed my own sharpening technique for web posting that IMO rivals anything else out there. The technique is easy, unconventional and works astonishing results. You can find it described in this tutorial

But to answer your question, yes. I always use a sturdy tripod, remote release and mirror lock-up when practical to do so.

I'll be posting images again once I return from an upcoming two-month stay in the Northern rockies.

I am in love with this photo. How did you find such light? I wish I could rate it... When I use 5 sec with running water - it usually gest overburned. This one is so very nice.

Jo, the exposure was .5 seconds. As in half a second. Sorry for the confusion. You're correct that 5 seconds would have been far too long for this effect.

Congrats on POW Marc. It's about time! This is certainly a change from your bold, wide angle style but just as beautiful. Do you remember the focal length you shot this at?

Normally the picture of the week is choosen to inspire critics to viewers....

I guess this one has been selected just to make people happy to contemplate it.

The rays of sun making some little spots of rainbows in the gorgeous veil of water is an absolute dream, just admirable !

Long time just beauty, majestuous beauty was the choice.Thank you, elves and thank you, of course, to the photographer !

Too bad for us fault-finders out here that it shows the application of skill and timing to good advantage.

Actually, I can sort of make out the figure of a dead body in the rocks, center.
