v 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Gorgeous. Three times I looked at it, and all three times I loved it. Beautiful depth of the colour (and the pool ;)), and the tonal range is delicious. Lovely work, Chris. Link to comment
cdaunis 0 Posted September 6, 2006 Sarah, Vi, thanks for your comments! The pool kept me busy all summer long, both in the water and from my view above. Fascinating (to me) the shifting light, even as the season wore on, the differing angle of the sun and the manner in which the pool was used. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 18, 2006 I actually like your comment more than I like the photograph itself. This is for two reasons. 1-I saw another version first, which I found stunning. I don't think this works as well. In the other the blues in the bottom left corner had more of a range and I think the space created an atmosphere which allowed me to more readily empathise with the figure, rather than here where I feel I'm studying her. 2nd-your comment hit on something I'm looking at all the time, almost obsessively and something which is shockingly under discussed on this site. That is light. It's in my head as I walk around, watching the subtle changes of shadows on walls, or the sunlight on objects at different times of the day, different days of the year. colour, composition, subject, camera, lens-all are important but secondary facets to our art. It's about light, where the light is and when it's there and how it's there. And that's why I like your comment because it's amazing how few photographers ever mention it or are aware of it in any context other than exposure. Link to comment
cdaunis 0 Posted September 19, 2006 Darrell, many photographers (me included) lust after lenses, envy other's equipment, wonder at the workflow developed to twist and tweak an image, but truly the only thing important is light. The subject is widely ignored in favor the latest Canikoleic 85-400 f1.2 super zoom. 1% of the best photos were made with the best equipment, but 100% were made with light. Thank you for stopping by and sharing this interesting perspective. And as for this shot compared to the other, I could not agree more. Link to comment
