I might be mistaken, but I think you had this up before, and assume you are posting it again. At any rate, I liked it then and I like it now. These subjects are sliding into oblivion, but, then again, so are we. Keep 'em coming.

You're right again, Dave. I think this is a bit different shot from another visit, but the same scene done the same way. Being there made me think of all the kids who passed through that entrance, with their passions, hopes and dreams.

I, too, saw your earlier posting of the same subject matter and as David said, I liked it then, and I like it now. Someone who came into my shop sometime ago and in a conversation about old drive-in movies, made a comment that they have built a new drive-in or two somewhere here in Texas. They actually told me where and I filed that information in a safe place like the items that I put away to go back to when I need them, SAFE! I never see a drive-in or talk about one, that I don't remember the one and only time I let a close girlfriend talk me into getting in the trunk of a car with her while a couple other girls pay and get in. Of all times, it was not dark enough, they stop the car almost in front of the snack bar area and pop the trunk and get us out. There was 3 of us girls in the trunk and when we got out we all went up front to sit. Before long here came the manager and said he wanted the two girls that got out of the trunk to come with him. My dear girlfriend turned to me and said "come on Janie let's go". Well he gave us a speech and let us stay; however, we had to tell our parents and they had to call him and let him know we had told. Well, I talked the other girl that did not get in trouble into getting her mother to call for me so I would not have to tell mine and she did. However, several weeks later I wanted to go somewhere and was refused and remember how kids will be kids we keep asking why? Well, guess what, she told me why. She had found out about the drive-in stunt. Needless to say, I never did that again.!!!! Sorry for the long story. MEMORIES, WOW

Wonderful story, Janie, and good for your mother! If this shot did nothing more than bring that memory to mind, I would be glad I posted it.

Yes, it was more about romance than seeing a good movie. Those speaker boxes that weighed 10 pounds and sounded like a transistor radio, not to mention the graine washed out color on the big screen.I think I will take my memories and escapades to the grave with me.THE SHAME OF IT ALL.

ah, memories! i remember going to the Midtown Drive-In with a car load of my friends (15-16 yrs.old)...and my brother who was eleven. trying to get into our first "X" rated movie...Barbarella. The lady at the ticket booth kept asking how old my brother was, and i kept lying...saying he was 14 - thinking of course, that she'd never let him in at age 11. Finally, she said o.k., since you lied to me I'm going to have to charge him the adult price! so, we got in...but the movie one big disappointment. The raciest thing we saw was Jane Fonda's breasts through a space suit with shiny, black, translucent, plastic cups. left far too much to the imagination...and it was reality we were looking for. as we would have said "in the day"...bummer man, bummer!

and the speakers Sam referred to... it was a big deal for all the "bad boys" to put the speakers in the window, roll it all the way up, and then drive off...ripping the speaker wires from the post...and hook up those horrible sounding speakers to your eight track. me and the guys i hung with didn't mind consuming all the beer we could get hold of...but honestly, never pulled that stunt.

Wonderful memories, John! You may have been looking in the wrong direction. The steamier scenes were sometimes in the other cars. But, dammit, their windows would often fog up.

funny you should say that Doug! and i didn't think of this until you did...but although most of my nights at the drive-in were with the guys...i did have one steamy night of window fogging of my own at the Midtown Drive-In. "A Whole Lotta Love"...and a whole lotta liquor... I'll leave it at that. ;)
