Red Slug (Arion rufus)

bueh

This picture was taken with the macro function of my "cheap" Coolpix 5600. Exif data shows that the camera used the following settings: image mode high (5M*) with 4/1 JPEG compression, ISO 50, zoom at 12.3mm (equivalent to 74mm in 35mm format), built-in flash fired in auto mode, automatic white balance, standard (neutral) color, no exposure compensation. It's one of the very few macro images I took where the camera's AF focused correctly (or the depth-of-field was large enough).
The camera was hand-held but I put my hand on the ground. The image is not cropped or manipulated. Please view the large version for best picture quality.

The slug was feeding on those small leaves when I saw it and decided

to test the macro mode of my digicam. Unfortunately the photos were

only correctly focused when the flash was switched on. This is my best

shot from the "session". The creature seemed to become aware of me and

took one bold look around, turned and moved back into the shade.
