Does the dark triangle, upper left, bother anyone? I kind of think

it helps keep the eye from wandering out that corner but..........?

Composition? Saturation? Shadow details? Any other

observations\comments will be gratefully received. Best, LM.

There are two arguments for the dark area in the corner. Either it distracts you from the rose, or it frames in the rose. I personally think that it frames in the rose, and it blends with the black border making it stand out less. If you didn't have the border, I think it would be a different story. I love the splash of color in the border, I think that it ties the whole photograph together. I think the saturation gives it a little extra interest. It, to me, is something more than just another rose shot. Great job!

Krista, Thanks for taking the time & effort to view & comment. The high saturation is thanks to Velvia 50. (no help from me) The colour in the frame was picked up from the center of the bloom. I've noticed from viewing other shots on this site that black frames really set most of the shots off better so I thought I'd try to give this one a boost. Best, LM.

Hi Len,

I really like this shot. I'm starting to miss Velvia somewhat after reviewing your shots. Nice DOF..separates the rose from the background. I was curious what the histogram looks like as I was thinking you might be able to pull more dynamic range out of the shot. So I dropped it into Photoshop, noticed the low pixel count in the high ranges and dropped the highs back a bit. With no noticeable clipping of the highlights. I'm not sure if I like it any better, but here it is with a snap of my Levels changes fyi. Let me know your thoughts.

Greg, I couldn't see the difference by scrolling back & forth between them but when I put them up side by side I could see what you are talking about. I think you have produced a superior result. It now has more snap. Thanks for your efforts. Best, LM.
