olli.pekonen 0 Posted August 27, 2006 An accident shot - en route to the island for the bikini shots some 4 minutes off the coast of Helsinki, Finland, I popped this shot of Nina... I guess not in vain. What's your take on this? Link to comment
jongaus 0 Posted August 27, 2006 I find it odd that one eye is out of focus, while the other is so very much in focus. I'm not quite used to it yet...have to take another look later. The girl seems nice, however. Link to comment
olli.pekonen 0 Posted August 27, 2006 Hi John! Yes, it is a problem in low light situations, and obviously a distraction. The "rule" sez that in a portrait, the eyes must be in focus, and if not both, the one closer to the camera should. This was shot with 85/1.2 with f at something like in the 1.6-1.8 range. wogears 186 Posted August 27, 2006 She is, of course, very beautiful. Wouldn't mind seeing her in a bikini, or anything else. I do think the eye is too sharp considering the softness of the skin. OTOH, the pose and expression are very lovely. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Beautiful shot. Works as well if not better as a portrait than a fashion shot. Ok, with the distant sea bg the aperture could have smaller but then the poetic ambience would have been lost. The blurriness makes her look sort of etheric (?) and precious. Also the short dof adds the closeness. I can only imagine how beautifull this would have been with no dress around the neck? Now the black and white dress has slightly too much contrast compared to her face. Anyway, I truly like this one. Link to comment
olli.pekonen 0 Posted August 28, 2006 Thanks for the input. Yes, sometimes you arrive in a shot where, suddenly, there are a lots of limiting factors (like here, the dress which is very hi-lo-key versus to the rest of the midtone image). But I guess that's the beauty of this profession, esp. when it is NOT a profession :-) Link to comment
