This is the result of conversion from colour photo to B/W using

multiple channels in LAB and CMYK. Thanks Carsten Ranke for your

advise. I am still learning. Thanks for your feedback. Karl

Wow, your B&W from the large original is stunning ! Yes, a bit surreal feeling. The man on the right side makes a big difference.

Karl, it is another story, you have a good teacher and you are a good pupil. It is a good composition with a good dynamic range. The pano is nice with the addition of the man.

Saying all this, for my taste this one

here

has some qualities that are lost in this one.

In the previous one the close faces and gestures of the women in the fg. are adding a strong feeling of walking a long way for the purpose of the title ,the brighter contarst of the bg. and road enhances the feeling and conveying a special spiritual atmospher.

Thank you Pnina for your comment and thank you for adding the link to the first version of this photo. What I see is that this XPan colour negative has tremendous potential to produce quite different results. If I remember well I shot this photo out of the belly to avoid influencing their behaviour in front of the camera and until now I never developed it because it was not very attractive as a negative ... I love it, Karl, great B&W shot. Pnina is right in a way, as your other shot emphasized the human element. This version focuses on the environment and gives a strong sense of place...

I like both versions which emphasize on 2 diff feel & 2 different story. Very good conversion, Karl.

Great photo! The positions of the people, the clouds on the background with their shadows on the mountains and the road all fit to make this beautiful; a photo of people and their way way of life. Thank you.

Thanks Claude, Cherlyn, Karina and Ali Soltani for your encouraging feedbacks. I will try to discover more hidden treasures in old negatives. Karl

Karl,

This is one of my favorite images I've seen from Nepal. It has such a timeless quality to it and the B&W processing is superb. I feel like I'm right there walking with them. Fantastic image and I'm putting it into my 'favorites' folder. I love your mountain images and you photograph the cultures of the Himalaya better than anyone else. I'm always waiting for your next trip!!

I think this image is amazing to start off. It tells a story about hardship i believe as i look at the barren landscape. It also tells a story of survival and how much hardship that these people have to put up with. It is also strange how the man on the ledge is sitting there it almost seems as though he is out of place. The B&W is a good color to emphasize the feeling of this picture. the only question i have is if it was taken in B&W or was it duplicated in B&W. Over all it is a very impressing image.

Thanks Bryan for your comment. You may have seen a second version if this photo in my "single photos" folder. There you can find a small scan of the original colour slide film and some more comments about this photo. The man at the right side was my porter in typical Nepalese resting position. Kind regards.
