tmjacobs 0 Posted August 27, 2006 This is the choir of the 'Grote of Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk' in Dordrecht. This 180 degrees panorama is stitched from 12 (portrait) photos. I'm still working on getting the choir stalls straight again, but I quite like this effect. Comments welcome, please take a look at the large version. Link to comment
jefvandenhoute 0 Posted August 27, 2006 Prachtig gedaan. Voor mij is de foto zo perfect. De dynamiek van het koorgestoelte geven ene prachtige dieptewerking Link to comment
antonio.giacomo 0 Posted August 27, 2006 Hi Theo, A brave attempt, but I do not think that cylindrical perspective works inside buildings. Rectilinear would be much better, but you cannot then go to 180 degrees. Also, you could have done a second, or even third, pan with the camera tipped up to get in the whole of the east end window. Have you tried PTGui? It will stitch together multiple pans by it self. If the result is not quite straight you have to tell it what are verticals and horizontals, and it will then get the whole thing straight for you. If you are seriously into this sort of photography, the best approach is a large format camera with a wide-angle lens. You can then enjoy a beer while the lab processes your film, rather than sitting in front of a computer all night. Look at http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4814809. So, it is A for effort, but not much for aesthetics. Link to comment
tmjacobs 0 Posted August 27, 2006 Thanks everyone for your comments. Antonio, I did this with Autopano Pro, but I have PtGui as well and know they're both very similar. Both have many possibilities but didn't let me straighten the choir stalls (but even if it did I still like this version). I know both programs will stitch in both directions. Another photo of mine is actually a 3x3 photo(I mean 3 vertical x 3 horizontal, so 9 in total, it's the cloister of the Dom of Utrecht, also in this folder). BTW: it's difficult to compare it to your 4x5 photo since that is taken from quite a bit further back from the stalls. A fence prevented me from taking a similar position. I know the best approach is probably large format. But I believe the future of photography is digital and digital large format is still very expensive (analogue too, for that matter). With what it saves me to use my relatively cheap camera compared to large format I can buy many, many beers - the more you drink, the more everything looks cylindrical :-) Link to comment

peter_anson 0 Posted November 13, 2008 I am very much in favour of the cylindrical method. Keep drinking beer, it doesn't seem to harm your technique in any way. Link to comment
